Andrew Garfield has finally explained the motive behind his naked running stunt under the Hollywood sun for his new flick “Mainstream”.
While Andrew Garfield has given his opinions on the rumours of him reprising the role of Spider-man, he has also spilled out his feelings about a very odd stunt that he did for the Gia Coppola directed drama “Mainstream”.
What was the stunt Andrew Garfield did for “Mainstream”?
In “Mainstream”, Andrew Garfield plays the role of an influencer named “Link,” who paves his own path to success when he starts making videos for Youtube with another struggling influencer, Frankie (played by Maya Hawke).
For this internet fame, they make videos, which have the potential of going viral, and one such idea involved a really unorthodox stunt involving “The Social Network” star.
For this special stunt, which can be seen briefly in the official trailer, Andrew Garfield’s character decides to strip down to his bare body, don a dildo between his legs and run around naked on the populated streets of Hollywood Boulevard, only to get himself arrested in the film.
Why did he decide to do the stunt?
In an interview with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, Andrew revealed that it was more of a now-or-never situation, as he stated:
“I don’t know, man. It’s like, life’s short. If this year has taught us anything it’s that life is short and if I get an opportunity to streak down Hollywood Boulevard without getting arrested, I’m going to take it.”
In another interview, Andrew gave an insight to the emotions, which were going through his mind before the stunt and that the director, Gia Coppola couldn’t have been happier with the star’s performance.
“It was like riding on a rollercoaster. That day was like ‘Oh my God, I don’t want to do it. I’m going to vomit. I’m going to die.’ And then after the first take Gia says ‘Holy shit, that was amazing, we got it, get into the van.’ And I was like, ‘No. No, no, no. We’re doing this five more times.”
It is sure that Andrew Garfield will remember that special moment for the rest of his life.
“I go back to the fact that we’re all going to die. What do I want to do while I’m here? On my deathbed am I going to be like ‘F***, I wish hadn’t run around Hollywood Blvd naked wearing a dildo,’ or am I going to be like ‘F***, I wish I would have known what that felt like?”
