A “Noble Mensch” And A Forced Testimony: Day 9 Of Johnny Depp’s Libel Trial

Isaac Baruch, Travis McGivern, and Laura Divenere take the witness stand.

Day 9 of Johnny Depp’s libel trial witnessed a strange turn of events. Since day one, the court had been hearing Depp’s defense and own version of events backed by a number of testimonies. But on this day, the court heard about a forced testimony against Heard. Granted this was the only one backing Amber Heard, three more testimonies in support of Depp were presented to the court.

According to Daily Mail, Interior Designer Laura Divenere, who furnished the former couple’s LA penthouse, appeared via video link on Day 9 of Johnny Depp’s libel trial. Her witness statement held that Heard never spoke of alleged violence and also described Depp as someone who was never violent and was “wonderful”

However, evidence was provided by Heard in a secret recording where Divenere seemed to be telling Heard that, Adam Waldman, Depp’s US attorney was pressuring her to brand the ‘Aquaman’ actress as ‘physically abusive’ towards Depp.

“Mr Waldman wrote the declaration, I just approved it and signed it,” admitted Divenere and upon further questioning, by NGN’s lead counsel Sasha Wass added, “I did feel under pressure to say something about that”.

A part of her statement also held that Heard spent a night in jail after allegedly attacking former wife, however, she said she knew nothing about the incident. A text message from Waldman was also revealed where he asked her is she wanted to “remain on the side of the hoax” or the truth.

Another unseen picture of Heard was released after she was allegedly hit by a phone Depp threw. But it was instantly denied by Depp’s childhood friend Isaac Baruch. He appeared via video link on Day 9 of Johnny Depp’s libel trial and lived then, on the same floor as the former couple.

He called Depp a “noble mensch” and said, “He’s a true, honest man; he’s a good guy.” Baruch further said, “In all the years I’ve known Mr Depp, I have never once seen him commit an act of violence”. They have known each other for over 40 years.

He told the court that he found Heard and her friends changing locks to the penthouse door on May 21, 2016, after an alleged violent row where Depp threw the phone.

“Ms. Heard, whose demeanor I would describe at that moment as being very animated and in control, informed me that Mr. Depp had come by the night before and got violent and that she was now changing the locks on all the doors to penthouses 1, 3 and 5.” said Baruch.

“She told me that he hit her in the face and threw a phone at her. I then asked her where he had hit her and she stretched her neck and pushed out the right side of her head for me to look at her right eye. Her face looked to me just as natural and normal” Baruch told the court and added that there was light “the hallway and the sunlight” and he had an “excellent view” of her face.

The ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ actor was also accused of grabbing Heard and repeatedly hitting her on March 23, 2015. But, Travis McGivern, the actor’s security guard for more than seven years denied the claim and accused the actress of violent behavior.

“‘At some point approximately 30 to 45 minutes after my arrival, Ms Heard threw a full can of Red Bull that hit Mr Depp in his back.” He told the court and added that there were a number of things Heard had around her that she could throw.

“At this point, Ms Heard was standing on the landing above Mr Depp and I witnessed her spit on Mr Depp from above” He said. “Ms Heard also tried to throw her purse at Mr Depp, but I deflected it mid-air. Approximately 10 minutes before we left, I witnessed Ms Heard punch Mr Depp in the eye with a closed fist”

He finished saying there was no point in time where Depp hurt his former spouse.

In addition, Alejandro Romero, concierge at the building, told the court that he regularly saw Elon Musk when Depp was away.  “From March 2015 onwards, Ms Heard was visited regularly late at night, at around 11:00 pm to midnight, by Mr Elon Musk,” said Romero

He also told the court that he “did not notice any bruises, cuts, swelling, red marks or any other injuries of any kind to Ms Heard’s face” after alleged violence in May 2016

“She’s filed a fraud domestic violence claim to extort and blackmail for a divorce.” Baruch told the court.

The actor, who is suing The Sun for labelling him a ‘wife beater’ in an article published in 2018, missed the start of day 9 for a meeting about a new movie while the actress was present.
