Mega Bollywood star, Amitabh Bachchan, 77, has been tested positive for COVID-19 late in the evening on 10th July and was subsequently admitted to the Nanavati Hospital, located in Ville Parle, very close to the actor’s residence in Juhu, Mumbai. Bachchan has also confirmed the news on Twitter about an hour ago. And as per a recent tweet by Abhishek Bachchan, he too has been diagnosed with coronavirus and revealed that they both have “mild symptoms”.
“I have tested covid positive,” wrote Amitabh Bachchan in his tweet, sharing that he has been shifted to the hospital and the needed authorities have been notified so that his family and staff has also undergone tests, whose results are currently awaited.
He went on to request everyone who has been near or with the actor recently to get tested for coronavirus just to be safe. “All that have been in close proximity to me in the last 10 days are requested to please get themselves tested,” he wrote.
So far, Bollywood hadn’t reported many prominent cases of coronavirus except singer Kanika Kapoor, unlike Hollywood where many actors from Idris Elba to Tom Hanks were diagnosed with COVID-19 and went into self-induced quarantines.
Wishes for his speedy recovery from the disease have started pouring in from fans and celebs alike. Former Maharashtra chief minister and BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis have been one of the first political leaders to express his concern for Amitab Bachchan’s diagnosis and to wish for him to get well soon.
Actors like Rajkumar Rao, Dulquer Salman, Mahesh Babu, and many other celebs also responded to Big B’s tweet, wishing for him to up and about in no time.
A few minutes ago, Abhishek Bachchan also shared that he has tested coronavirus positive and was admitted to a hospital.
“Earlier today both my father and I tested positive for COVID 19. Both of us having mild symptoms have been admitted to hospital. We have informed all the required authorities and our family and staff are all being tested. I request all to stay calm and not panic. Thank you,” Abhishek wrote.
Amitabh Bachan had already begun working while in lockdown and was busy preparing for the upcoming season of Kaun Banega Crorepati.
The veteran actor was last seen in Shojit Sircar’s comedy-drama, Gulabo Sitabo, along with Ayushmann Khurrana, which Amitabh Bachchan virtually promoted after the decision to release it on the streaming platform, Amazon Prime Video. Initially scheduled to be released in the theaters across India earlier this year, Gulabo Sitabo became the first digitally released big-budget Bollywood film as cinema halls remain shut due to the pandemic.
Amitabh Bachchan had finished the shoot of two films before the pandemic- Jhund, which will see Amitabh Bachchan in the role of social worker Vijay Bare and Chehre, alongside Imran Hashmi- and they are ready for release. He was shooting for Ayan Mukherji’s Brahmastra where he will share the screen with Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt.
As for Abhishek Bachchan, his debut web series, Breathe: Into The Shadows, released on Amazon Prime on 10th July and next film, The Big Bull, is all set to release on Disney+ Hotstar.
