Ana De Armas Takes Scarlett Johansson’s Place In Chris Evans’ ‘Ghosted’

The star of ‘No Time to Die’ joins Apple Original Films for a romantic adventure film.

In Apple Original Films’ adventure film Ghosted, directed by Dexter Fletcher and produced by Skydance Media, No Time to Die star Ana de Armas has taken the place of Scarlett Johansson.

According to Deadline Scarlett Johansson “amicably” left the project after learning that production would begin in February.

Ana de Armas will now feature in Ghosted alongside Chris Evans, as well as executive produce alongside Evans, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger, and Jules Daly.

Instead of their characters in Knives Out being at odds with one another, Ana de Armas and Chris Evans will now portray on-screen lovers in Ghosted.

Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson, who are best known for their roles as Captain America and Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, had first paired up for the film. After initiating a lawsuit against Disney over claimed contract breaches with the Disney+ release of Black Widow, Johansson signed another arrangement for the Apple project.

De Armas most recently worked alongside Evans, Rege-Jean Page, and Ryan Gosling in The Gray Man, a Russo Brothers-directed thriller Netflix planned for release in 2022, in addition to Knives Out. Fun fact: With a budget of $200 million, this is the streaming company’s most expensive film project to date. Other planned projects for De Armas include the Marilyn Monroe biopic Blonde and the psychological thriller Deep Water, in which she co-stars with Ben Affleck.

Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the writers behind Deadpool and Zombieland, also serve as producers for Ghosted.

Finch, starring Tom Hanks; Swan Song, starring and produced by Mahershala Ali; Joel Coen’s The Tragedy of Macbeth, starring Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand; and Emancipation, directed by Antoine Fuqua and starring and produced by Will Smith, are among the projects on the Apple Original Films slate.

Apple and Skydance Media have a multiyear cooperation that includes filmmaker Peter Farrelly’s The Greatest Beer Run Ever, and Apple and Skydance Animation have a multiyear partnership.

Earlier this summer, Apple bought the high-profile project. The plot of Ghosted is unknown, however it is billed as a “high concept romantic action adventure film” in the vein of Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner’s 1984 classic Romancing The Stone.

With Ghosted’s production just around the corner, hopefully more information on the cloaked project will be revealed soon. Perhaps Evans and de Armas will set out to make a film from every genre together after this.
