Anthony Hopkins’ Sobriety Message For The 45th Year Inspires Younger Generation

“Today is the tomorrow you were so worried about yesterday”

Anthony Hopkins’ sobriety video message floated throughout social media on Tuesday, celebrating his 45 years of sobriety journey. Hopkins’ sobriety journey started nearly half a century ago in 1975 at the age of 38, when he had the “wake-up call” to get his life back together.

Hopkins’ was struggling with alcoholism in the early stage of his career, and even admitted that he was “drunk” and had a “hangover” a lot of times.

On Thursday, the Oscar-winning actor will be turning 83, and by the video message we can definitely say that he has a lot of wisdom to share with all of us. Anthony Hopkins’ sobriety video message was shot in black and white with the actor sitting in front of his bookshelf at his Malibu house. He captioned the video, “With gratitude, I celebrate 45 years of sobriety.”

Anthony Hopkins’ started the video by saying, “Hello everyone. Good morning. Well, new year is coming. It’s been a tough year, full of grief and sadness for many, many, many people. But 45 years ago today, I had a wake-up call.  I was heading for disaster. I was drinking myself to death. “

“I’m not preaching, but I got a message, a little thought that said, ‘Do you want to live or die?’ and I said, ‘I want to live.’ And suddenly the relief came, and my life has been amazing, and I may have off days and little bits of doubt, and all that, but all in all, I say hang in there.” he further expressed.

He even encouraged the younger generations to not give up and keep fighting. “Today is the tomorrow you were so worried about yesterday. You young people, just keep in there. Don’t give up, just keep fighting. Be bold, and mighty forces will come to your aid.”

Anthony Hopkins’ sobriety video message ended by him wishing everyone a Happy New year. “That’s sustained me through my life. And that’s all I’ve got to say and happy new year. This is going to be the best year. Thank you.”

Anthony Hopkins has been a phenomenal actor. He was awarded the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance as Hannibal Lecter in 1991’s The Silence of The Lambs. He got nominated for Oscars four times for his roles in movies – Remains Of the Day (1993),  Nixon (1995), Amistad (1997), and The Two Popes (2019). Some of his notable performances are- Legends Of The Fall, The Mask of Zorro, Shadowlands, Hitchcock, the Thor movies, and HBO’s Westworld.
