Anthony Mackie Reveals How Will Smith Once Punched Him In The Jaw!

Because Smith is one “angry human being”

As soon as WandaVision wraps up its run on Disney+, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier are going to get the front seat allowing its leading actors, who have only played supporting roles to date, to finally be the focus of the MCU. But even though, till now, Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson a.k.a. Falcon had a relatively smaller role in the MCU (as Chris Evans’ Captain America’s confidante) he has punched his fair share of bad guys. But turns out, in real life, he got punched by actor Will Smith, as Mackie puts it, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is one “angry human being.”

The time when Will Smith punched Anthony Mackie In. The. Face!

In a recent appearance on The Jess Cagle show on SiriusXM, Mackie shared how while he was shooting his upcoming film Outside the Wire, he went to attend Will Smith’s birthday party and tried to hug the actor but was sucker-punched in return.

“Well, I got so funny story,” Anthony Mackie began. “Will Smith does like a whole concert I’m on stage with Will Smith doing a concert. I’m losing my mind. Right? So, the cake comes out, we bring the cake out, Will Smith sees me and he goes, ‘Hey, Anthony Mackie.’ I’m like, Will Smith knows my name. Right?

“So, I go to like high five. I don’t know what I was trying to do, but like, I was trying to hug him and he thought I was coming in for like a high five. So, he like tried to grab my arm and he punched me in the jaw so hard. Like he hit me with a right cross so hard. Then he grabbed me and he’s like, ‘you’re good?’ I was like, ‘I think so. I think we’re in a fight, are we in a fight?’ He’s like, ‘no, no, I’m sorry.'”

Laughing hard at the memory of the accidental punch, Anthony Mackie jokingly commented  that Smith is “an angry human being” who meant to punch him as “there is no way you mess up a hug with a punch in the jaw.”

Now that Chris Evans has hung up his shield, who is going to be Captain America?

Even though at the end of Avengers: Endgame, an old Steve Rogers (perfectly played by a superb Chris Evans) gave his shield to Sam, there are still doubts as to who will be the new Cap. While Sam is all honest and brave like Steve, Bucky has the extra-ordinary capabilities that the title needs. And now, there are rumours that The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is all set to bring a third contender for the title. So, what’s going to happen?

“No, we don’t know that yet. The show, the idea of the show is basically, you know, and at the end of Avengers: Endgame, Cap decided he was going into retirement and he asked me if I would take up the shield, but at no point in time, did I agree to or say that I would be Captain America,” Anthony Mackie explained. “So the show walks the line of who is going to take up the shield and who’s going to be Captain America if Steve isn’t coming back.”

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, starring Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan, is scheduled to debut on March 19, 2021, on Disney+.
