Arnold Schwarzenegger Tells Russian President Vladimir Putin To ‘Stop This War’

Schwarzenegger told the Russian people that they are being fed misinformation about their country’s assault on Ukraine

Former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger on Thursday told the Russian people that they are being fed misinformation about their country’s assault on Ukraine and appealed to Russian President Vladimir Putin to stop the attack.

“I have a message for my Russian friends, and for the Russian soldiers serving in Ukraine: There are things going on in the world that have been kept from you, terrible things that you should know about. But before I tell you about the harsh realities, let me tell you about the Russian who became my hero,” he said.

In a nine-minute video on Twitter, The Hollywood star said that the Kremlin was intentionally lying to Russians by saying the invasion was intended to “denazify” Ukraine. Russia describes its actions as a “special operation.”

“Ukraine did not start this war, neither did nationalists or Nazis,” he said, noting the country’s President Volodymyr Zelensky is Jewish. “This is not the Russian people’s war.”

Arnold Schwarzenegger accompanied the video with a caption that read: I love the Russian people. That is why I have to tell you the truth. Please watch and share.”

Arnold then went back to his childhood and recalled how his hero Russian heavyweight lifter Yuri Petrovich Vlasov was his biggest inspiration growing up. He also noted that his father wanted him not to idealize a Russian man as he had fought against them as a soldier of the Nazi army in World War II.

The actor continued, “It didn’t matter to me what flag Yuri Vlasov carried. The strength and the heart of the Russian people have always inspired me. That is why I hope you will let me tell the truth about the war in Ukraine and what is happening there.” He then proceeded to inform that 141 nations have voted against Russia in the UN.

“When I see babies being pulled out of rubble, I think that I am watching the horrors of the second world war, not the news of today,” the Terminator star said. He also insisted that people have been told lies for what has been called ‘a special military operation by Russia’.

Addressing the Russian President directly, Arnold said, “To President Putin, I say: You started this war. You are leading this war. You can stop this war.” The actor also honoured and said, “The world has seen your bravery. We know that you have suffered the consequences of your courage. You have been arrested. You have been jailed. And you have been beaten. You are my new heroes.”
