The Oscars 2020 came and went leaving behind its usual list of disappointments and surprises. But what the film industry and millions of fans can’t get over is the fact that Jennifer Lopez starrer Hustlers, which made $33 million during its opening weekend, was snubbed. From a Golden Globe nomination to winning a Critics Choice Award, Lopez was a hot contender and yet she wasn’t even nominated. Turns out, we are not the only ones miffed about this injustice as her ex-fiance Ben Affleck also thinks the same!
In a recent interview with The New York Times, Ben Affleck spoke at length his past relationships, citing his divorce from Jennifer Garner “the biggest regret of his life”, and career in Hollywood. And now, Brooks Barnes, the one who interviewed the actor for the publication, has taken to Twitter to share a few of Affleck’s quotes didn’t make it to the final cut of the published interview.
During the candid chat, Ben Affleck remarked upon how unfair it was that his ex-fiancee Jennifer Lopez was not nominated for an Academy Award for her role in the 2019 film Hustlers, joining those who already believe that her “Ramona” in Hustlers deserved an Oscar nod.
“She should have been nominated [for Hustlers]. She’s the real thing,” Affleck said, adding, “I keep in touch periodically with her and have a lot of respect for her. How awesome is it that she had her biggest hit movie at 50? That’s f***ing baller.”
Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez were together in 2004 and were going to get married
After working together in 2003’s film ‘Gigli’, romance blossomed between Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck, soon making them one of Hollywood’s power couple. They got engaged and Jennifer Lopez was spotted wearing a giant diamond ring but in January 2004, the couple called off their wedding and broke up. Years later in 2016, Jennifer Lopez revealed that they both were under immense pressure that they couldn’t withstand and it strained their relationship.
But even though it has been 16 years since Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez dated, The Batman vs Superman actor is still in touch with her and respects her. In the same interview, he had also spoken at length about his divorce from actress Jennifer Garner, which ended their 10-years-long marriage.
