Chris Evans, the 40-year-old actor, made a virtual appearance on Sunday night at the Oscars 2022 awards ceremony to debut the trailer for his upcoming Disney and Pixar movie titled Lightyear. The Captain America star had already pre-recorded the message, which was aired just after Troy Kotsur won the Best Supporting Actor award for his role in CODA.
Chris Evans’ message at the Oscars 2022 and fans’ reactions
The actor started by congratulating Kotsur on his grand win before going on to share the trailer for his latest flick where he voices the role of Buzz Lightyear. Buzz Lightyear, the character who initially starred in the Toy Story franchise is now getting his own movie.
“Congratulations Troy Kotsur on winning Best Supporting Actor. What an incredible celebration of movies,” said Chris Evans in his message. “And now I’m very excited to share a special look at my new movie Lightyear,” he added.
Chris Evans’ surprise appearance at the Oscars 2022 received great responses from his fans. “Okay, the Oscars can end now, Chris Evans made his appearance and he looked d**n good doing it,” wrote one Twitter user.
“CHRIS EVANS LOOKING GOOD AS H**L POPPING UP ON MY SCREEN WITHOUT WARNING #Oscars,” wrote another. Another fan even went on to share a throwback photo of Chris Evans helping Regina King at the Oscars 2019, a moment that went viral back then. This was a great reminder that Evans is a necessity at every award event. His short appearance at this year’s ceremony brought it to the perfect end, despite the events that went down this time.
A little bit on Lightyear
Lightyear, the movie will focus on how the beloved astronaut from the Toy Story series came into being. The trailer that was shown at the Oscars ceremony is, however, a bit different than the one that was released as the “official” trailer a month or so before. This trailer too features a remix of David Bowie’s classic song “Starman” and gives us a sneak peek into what the plot is going to be about. It also prominently features a few other new (and old) characters other than Evans’ Lightyear. The movie will also narrate the tale of the “real” astronaut that inspired the character and action figure of our most precious Lightyear.
The voice cast and other personnel of the upcoming animated flick
Other than Chris Evans as the voice actor of the titular character, the movie will also feature James Brolin as Zurg, Taika Waititi as Morrison and Dale Soules as Steel, who are two members of the Star Command stranded alongside Buzz. It will also feature Peter Sohn in the voice of Sox, a robotic cat and Buzz’s sidekick who is also the comic relief of the movie. Keke Palmer, Uzo Aduba, Mary McDonald-Lewis, and Isiah Whitlock Jr. are also included in the cast. Efren Ramirez, from Napoleon Dynamite, is also a member of the voice cast. The movie is directed by Angus MacLane and produced by Galyn Susman.
It hits the theatres and in IMAX on June 17, 2022.
