Dakota Johnson made light of Chris Martin’s unintentional appearance in a virtual interview. Chris Martin briefly appeared on a panel with his girlfriend, Dakota Johnson, as the 2022 Sundance Film Festival continues with virtual events.
Dakota was getting ready to talk about her upcoming movie, Cha Cha Real Smooth, on Sunday, January 23, when she seemed to need some Zoom help. The camera began to work after a little pause, and Chris entered the frame. Before racing out of camera, the singer exclaimed, “Hello! Welcome, welcome. Peace!”
While Dakota, Cooper Raiff (writer, director, and co-star), and Vanessa Burghardt (co-star) couldn’t stop giggling, moderator Charlie Sextro kept his cool.
He said, “It’s great to see the three of you together. Loving the film and loving seeing the three of you all together on one screen.”
Andrew (Cooper), a man in his twenties, who works as a bar mitzvah party host, is the protagonist of Cha Cha Real Smooth. He finds himself in the middle of a potentially difficult love affair while striking up a connection with a mother, Domino (Dakota), and her autistic daughter (Vanessa).
Cooper told Deadline, “I thought it was really funny having a 22-year-old who is not at all a man, helping little 13-year-olds become men at these bar mitzvahs. It’s also a “coming-of-age story for a 12-year-old, a 22-year-old and a 32-year-old, those different stages.”
Dakota was interested when she first heard about the project and immediately began working on the script with fellow producer Ro Donnelly.
“We really jumped at the opportunity to make the women in this story very real, and to allow Domino to be quite complicated and to not have to explain herself. And it was like a real gift I think. Meeting Cooper was just wonderful, we want to make all his movies… Cooper’s incredibly talented. The story’s really special, it’s timely, it’s inclusive,” she said.
Dakota then had another special visitor emerge at the conclusion of the interview: her dog, who began barking in an attempt to earn a spot on mom’s lap.
“He really likes to be in the interview. Then he likes to be in and out the entire time,” she added.
Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin have been dating since 2017, when they were first seen out on a sushi date in Los Angeles. They moved in together and lived at Martin’s Malibu mansion after three years of dating.
