Chrissy Teigen has bowed out of a voice role in Mindy Kaling’s comedy series Never Have I Ever.
The move came in the wake of the bullying allegations made against Chrissy Teigen by Courtney Stodden.
What happened between Chrissy Teigen and Courtney Stodden?
Chrissy Teigen came under fire for the hateful things she said to Courtney Stodden in 2011, when the latter was just 16-years-old.
Stodden, who uses gender-neutral pronouns, recently told The Daily Beast that Teigen had encouraged them to kill themselves and take a “dirt nap”.
Teigen publicly apologized to them in a three-part Twitter post on May 12. “Not a lot of people are lucky enough to be held accountable for all their past bulls—in front of the entire world. I’m mortified and sad at who I used to be. I was an insecure, attention-seeking troll,” the model began on Twitter.
“I have tried to connect with Courtney privately but since I publicly fueled all this, I want to also publicly apologize. I’m so sorry, Courtney,” she added. “I hope you can heal now knowing how deeply sorry I am. And I am so sorry I let you guys down. I will forever work on being better than I was 10 years ago, 1 year ago, 6 months ago.”
Stodden said they accept Teigen’s apology but claimed that she never tried to reach out to them personally.
Following the allegations, Macy’s and Target dropped the 35-year-old’s “Cravings by Chrissy” cookware line, Bloomingdale’s too pulled back from a deal with her.
Now, the cookbook author has backed out of a role in Never Have I Ever considering the allegations
The Netflix drama features voice-over narration for key characters performed by guest actors. For instance, the previous season featured voice-over narration by tennis player John McEnroe.
“Chrissy Teigen has decided to step away from a guest voiceover role in one episode of the upcoming second season of Never Have I Ever,” a spokesperson for the show told Deadline. “The role is expected to be recast.”
Never Have I Ever revolves around an Indian American teenage girl, Devi Vishwakumar, as she navigates life, high school and relationships.
