Demi Lovato Comes Out As Non-Binary: “Changing My Pronouns To ‘They'”

“Allows me to feel most authentic.”

Demi Lovato has made a big announcement that they have a non-binary gender identity and is now using they/them pronouns.

The actor and singer shared the news in an Instagram post on Wednesday: “I want to take this moment to share something very personal with you,” they began. “Over the past year and a half I’ve been doing some healing and self-reflective work, and through this work I’ve had this revelation that I identify as non-binary. With that said, I’ll officially be changing my pronouns to ‘they/them’.”

“I feel that this best represents the fluidity that I feel in my gender expression, and allows me to feel most authentic and true to the person I both know I am, and still am discovering,” they added.

Lovato has also described their s**uality as fluid, saying in 2020 that they were “still figuring it out” and had told their parents in 2017 “that I saw myself ending up possibly with a woman”.

They also said that they will speak to other non-binary people in a video series about gender identity. “I’m doing this for those out there that haven’t been able to share who they truly are with their loved ones,” Lovato added. “Please keep living in your truths & know I am sending so much love your way.”

Demi Lovato’s non-binary revelation comes after their announcement in March that they were pan***ual. Throughout their career, Lovato has been an outspoken supporter of LGBT rights.

Last month, Lovato revealed they cut their hair off to free themselves from the “gender and ***uality norms” placed on them by their religion. Appearing on The Drew Barrymore Show in April, Lovato said that cutting their hair was a sign that they were putting themselves before their career.

The 28-years-old American singer/actor Demi Lovato also opened about how their broken engagement with ex Max Ehrich gave them clarity.

Demi said, “This past year, I was engaged to a man, and when it didn’t work, I was like, ‘This is a huge sign.’ I thought I was going to spend my life with someone. Now that I wasn’t going to, I felt this sense of relief that I could live my truth.”

They further quoted: “I know who I am and what I am, but I’m just waiting until a specific timeline to come out to the world as what I am. I’m following my healers’ timeline, and I’m using this time to really study and educate myself on my journey and what I’m preparing to do.”
