35-year-old rapper Drake, popular for his hits “Hotline Bling” and “What’s Next,” just sent Taylor Swift fans and his own fans in a frenzy after he dropped a picture of the two. Does this mean a collaboration is on the way? Let’s find out!
Drake hints toward possible collaboration with Taylor Swift
Swifties (as Taylor’s fans are popularly known) and Team Drizzy (the name used to refer to Drake’s fanbase) weren’t expecting this pleasant surprise at all when they woke up on the morning of April 18. Drake apparently had casually included a picture of himself with the “Blank Space” and “Bad Blood” singer at the end of an Instagram photo carousel he posted on the same day. “They too soft to understand the meaning of hard work,” he captioned the post.
A little bit on their friendship
It is not news that Drake and Taylor Swift have been friends for a very long time now. The duo was first spotted hanging out together at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards. And even back then, there had been constant rumors about a potential collaboration between the two that started from 2016 after they were spotted in the studio together, which the rapper posted on his Instagram back then.
Fans’ reaction to Drake’s cryptic post
And with the recent post, people from both fanbases have taken out their detective caps to figure out if the collaboration is actually happening. Some fans have speculated that Drake will feature on the 32-year-old singer‘s upcoming recorded version of her album “1989” ( Taylor has been remastering her first six albums to get ownership of them). Although most elements have been kept unchanged in these records, she has not missed this opportunity to feature various artists on them (some of them being Ed Sheeran, Phoebe Bridgers, and Chris Stapleton in the recorded version of her album “Red (Taylor’s Version)”).
It is currently not known when the picture of the duo was taken. Although in the picture, the singer can be seen sporting blunt bangs, something she has had as a signature hairstyle throughout a significant portion of her career. However, fans have speculated that the Polaroid quality parallels the “1989” album cover.
Fans also took this opportunity to share their thoughts on the potential Drake and Taylor Swift collaboration. “All I’m asking for is a Taylor Swift x Drake collab,” wrote one. “Taylor Swift and Drake will never beat collab allegations,” wrote another.
“Remember there were rumors about Drake x Taylor Swift during the 1989 era? What if the song is in the vault tracks?” tweeted another fan.
Is the collab really happening?
ET has confirmed that the picture posted by the rapper is indeed very old and no recent collab is on the way. But we can surely pray for something in the future!
