Ed Sheeran ‘Bad Habits’ Music Video Is Something Truly Unexpected

He wants us to be “surprised” by this one.

Ed Sheeran is back with his first single in a long time – titled “Bad Habits”. To say it’s a bit different for the singer would definitely be an understatement.

After dropping ‘Afterglow’ in December 2020 Ed Sheeran pretty much vanished from the scenes until now. On June 25, he dropped his new single “Bad Habits” and it has already become a smashing hit.

From the tunes to his look for the video- everything about “Bad Habits” is unusual. Clearly, that’s what Ed was going for.

In his brand new single, Ed is reflecting on his bad habits including late-night partying, heavy drinking, and how it all has been affecting him.

The lyrics go : “My bad habits lead to wide eyes staring at space/ And I know I’ll lose control of the things that I say/ I was looking for a way out, now I can’t escape/ Nothing happens after two/ It’s true, it’s true/ My bad habits lead to you.”

As for the music video, the multiple award winning singer upgraded his look accompanied by some stunning visuals. The 30-year-old stands out in a pink suit while he soars through the city sky terrorizing the people. His spiked hair and razor-sharp fangs give him the fierce look of a vampire. On top of it all Ed is even seen grooving to his own tunes.

Sheeran, who already enjoys a massive following of music lovers, is receiving positive reviews for his new song.

Ed Sheeran and his wife Cherry Seaborn welcomed their daughter, Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran, in August last year. According to Sheeran, fatherhood changed his approach to life and work which seems to be the inspiration behind the song.

“As soon as Cherry told me she was pregnant, life shifted, in terms of work and health and what I was putting into my body, be it food or alcohol,” he told BBC Radio 1’s Greg James. “I started exercising more and my routine became a bit more healthy.”

Additionally, Ed revealed he created “Bad Habits” as an attempt to surprise his listeners. “I wrote this song in January when I’d sort of finished the album,” he told Radio 1. “And it had no songs on there that would surprise people.”

“People see me as the acoustic singer-songwriter who does ballads and there was just a lot of that. So I wanted to go in the studio and make something that was totally different. I spent a month and just made lots of mad tunes – and this was one of the mad ones.”

The music video for “Bad Habits” is directed by Dave Meyers with inspirations both from the lyrics and his love of Buffy The Vampire Slayer.
