Ellen Pompeo Was Paid To Stay Silent About Patrick Dempsey Reveals Isaiah Washington

Washington alleged Pompeo ‘took $5 million under the table.’

Isaiah Washington claimed in his interview with Us Weekly that Ellen Pompeo was “unnerved” by the success of her fellow co-stars in Grey’s Anatomy.

According to the alum of Law & Order, “She couldn’t believe that everybody was more interested in me and Sandra [Oh] and everybody else than her. So I am not shocked that she said what she said [about Denzel Washington]. She really thinks that she’s cool with Black people like that, but she’s not.”

Ellen Pompeo discussed her run-in with Denzel during a 2016 episode of Grey’s Anatomy on her “Tell Me” podcast in September.

“Don’t you tell him what to do,” the director reportedly said after the Massachusetts native gave remarks regarding a scene she was in.

Ellen Pompeo responded by recalling firing back on Grey’s Anatomy set, “Listen, motherf–ker, this is my show. This is my set. Who are you telling?’ Like, ‘You barely know where the bathroom is.'” They eventually worked out their differences, Pompeo explained.

During the height of the Me Too era, Washington alleged that the Life of the Party actress, “took $5 million dollars under the table to not tell the world how toxic and nasty Patrick Dempsey really was.”

On October 21, Washington told Tavis Smiley of KBLA Talk 1580 radio, “Every single day I was a problem that was being reminded, ‘You’re No. 4 on the call sheet. You’re not the star of this show.'”

From the opinion of the Living Single alum, his time on the medical drama was only a warm-up for him to be “used as a scapegoat” to cover up other issues on set.

As an instance of the claimed “agenda,” Washington cited his termination in 2007 after he reportedly used a homophobic slur.

“It was easy. I didn’t know that it would stick to me so hard. But I found out why,” he said. “It was an agenda to cover up for the toxic and bad behavior of many of my former castmates on that show. And the top of that would be Patrick Dempsey.”

Washington’s accusations against co-stars, including Dempsey came as a new book, How to Save a Life: The Inside Story of Grey’s Anatomy, reignited the debate around the incident that led to his departure. Writer Mark Wilding revealed the dramatic altercation between P-Valley star Lynette Rice and the Sweet Home Alabama star in Lynette Rice’s tell-all book.

“It was my episode. I think one of them had been late to set one day and the other one then decided to pay him back by being late himself. Then it sort of exploded,” Wilding explained. “They got into an arguing match, and then before you know it they were physically fighting. I was standing there in video village. I’m, like, six feet four inches. I’m bigger than both of them. But I didn’t really jump in right away because I’m like, I don’t know if I want to get involved.”
