Sophie Turner’s latest role in The Staircase
Sophie Turner, who is popular for her role as Sansa Stark in the hit series Game Of Thrones, is coming back to the small screen for the limited HBO Max drama series, The Staircase. The actress is set to play the role of the adopted daughter of real life serial killer Michael Peterson, whose character will be played by Colin Firth.
A little bit on the eight-part series
The story of The Staircase will focus on the death of Kathleen Peterson, Michael Peterson’s spouse, that cost her family a grueling court battle that lasted for years. According to Hollywood Reporter, Sophie Turner will play the role of Margaret Ratliff, one of Peterson’s adopted daughters in The Staircase.
The entire case was covered in a French documentary by the same name directed by Jean-Xavier de Lestrade which first came out in 2004. Netflix also released its own true crime documentary series version of the case. As far as the story goes, novelist Michael Peterson had reported that his wife had fallen to death down the staircase of their North Carolina Mansion. Although the police suspected foul play on his part initially, it eventually brought out many of Peterson family’s secrets as Michael tried to prove his innocence.
Who are starring in the show?
The drama series also boasts a star-studded cast that includes big names like Colin Firth, Toni Collette, Juliette Binoche, Rosemarie DeWitt and Parker Posey. Collette will play Peterson’s wife, Kathleen, while DeWitt will portray the deceased’s sister, and Posey a top attorney, according to reports. However, Binoche’s character hasn’t been revealed yet.
Showrunners Antonio Campos and Maggie Cohn are the writers and executive producers of the show. Campos is known for “The Devil All The Time” and “The Sinner” whereas Maggie Cohn is known for “American Crime Story”.

The 25-year-old actress’ new role in ‘The Staircase comes following the birth of her first baby with husband Joe Jonas. The Jonas Brothers star and the actress welcomed their first baby girl, whom they named Willa, last year in July, roughly a year after they got married. The couple married in 2019 in an extravagant ceremony in France. They were engaged since 2017.
