Gigi Hadid On What She Learned From “Hard” Moments Of 2021 & Baby Khai

Gigi calls baby khai “awesome.”

Gigi Hadid has had a rough 2021 ending with an unforeseeable split from Zayn Malik. In a recent interview with InStyle, the 26-year-old model opened up about one of the key things she says she’s learned from reflecting on the past year.

“I’ve been reminded that when we get time with people,” she shared, “just really appreciate it and take it all in and try not to wish away moments. Even if there’s something hard, find something beautiful in it.”

Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik have been in an on-off relationship since 2015, and are parents to 16-month-old daughter Khai. Their recent breakup made headlines amid news that Gigi’s mom, Yolanda Hadid, “barged” into Zayn Malik and ex-girlfriend Gigi Hadid’s farmhouse in Pennsylvania, sparking a violent altercation.

While the pair is navigating parenthood after their breakup, keeping the best interest of their daughter in mind, Gigi calls baby khai “awesome.”

When asked what she appreciates most about Khai, Hadid told InStyle,”She’s just so smart, and she’s so aware. She watches everything, she’s always learning, she’s always looking…I still can’t believe it. It’s wild. A lot of my mom friends feel like that, and we’re nearing the first couple years [with our kids]. You’re obsessed with them, but sometimes you turn and you’re like, “Oh my god. Where did you come from?”

While Gigi Hadid has a successful career in modeling, she also spoke about how she doesn’t plan on having Khai model for Baby Guess like she did when she was younger. “Yeah. No. You know, she’s going to do what she wants to do. She could be an astronaut. I don’t know,” she said.

She ended the interview by teasing some of her future travel plans—and how Khai will be picking up one winter hobby very soon. “I’m really excited to take Khai skiing one day, because I learned to ski when I was, like, 2,” she said. “We’re getting close. Somewhere that I’ve always wanted to go is Greenland; it looks so beautiful. And New Zealand would be kind of epic. I’ve been to Japan, but I want to go back.”

On the professional front, Hadid is turning down magazine covers because she’d rather give someone else the opportunity.

The supermodel has walked in international runway shows countless times, led dozens of prestigious brand campaigns, and has done record-breaking number of magazine covers. In 2018, she posed on the cover of Vogue for the 35th time. But now she is passing on cover offers.

“It’s getting to this point in my career where I don’t only have to take the jobs where I’m just selling clothes. Now I get to be like, ‘What have I not done?,'” she told Instyle. “There are magazines I say ‘no’ to because I’d rather another girl have an opportunity to get that cover,” she continued. “I don’t need to do the same cover again if someone else’s career could skyrocket because of it.”

Outside of work in fashion, Gigi is all set to make her foray into television as Tan France’s co-host on the upcoming season of Netflix’s Next in Fashion.
