Halle Berry has a lot to celebrate this year. From her professional to love life, everything is falling in place for the “Monster’s Ball” actress.
At the 4th Annual Celebration of Black Cinema & Television event on Monday, Halle Berry accepted the Career Achievement Award where she called her boyfriend, Van Hunt, the “love of her life” in front of the audience.
The actress who has been divorced three times, said the public has been on this “painful journey” with her, but she “finally found love this year.”
“You’ve watched me fail and fail and fail and fail,” the 55-year-old said. “Besides directing my first movie, I also found the love of my life and I know it’s true and this is how I know it’s true. Because you fail so many times, you know what wrong looks like,” she added. “And because I failed so many times, I now know what [love] really looks like.”
“And so my partner is here tonight, Van (Hunt), and you have supported me,” added Halle Berry.
She also acknowledged the significance of receiving the Career Achievement Award.
“When I started 30 years ago there were no rooms like this,” the X-Men actress noted. “Where I could go and feel affirmed and esteemed. I was often alone. I was one of the only Black people in the room. Searching for my value, searching for my worth.”
“Over 30 years later to be standing here not just as an actor but as a director. Remaining authentic and true to myself is probably one of the greatest joys of my life,” she added. “I’m so happy to share this moment with all of you.”
Berry first confirmed her romance with Hunt, 51, in September by sharing a photo of herself wearing a T-shirt with the musician’s name on it, writing “now ya know… ♥️🦶🏽.” Since then, she has not been shy of sharing her love for her boyfriend publicly and has posed on events with him arm-in-arm.
During Elle’s 2021 Women in Hollywood event in October, Berry gushed that the “right one finally showed up.”
Later that day, Halle Berry and Van Hunt made a stylish duo at the 2021 People’s Choice Awards, where Berry was honored with the People’s Icon Award of 2021 for her contributions in TV and film, including for her directorial debut in this year’s Bruised, which is now streaming on Netflix.
Upon receiving the award, Halle Berry thanked her two children, Nahla, 13, who she shares with her ex-boyfriend Gabriel Aubry, and eight-year-old Maceo, whose father is her former husband Olivier Martinez.
Speaking at the ceremony at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica on Tuesday night, she said: “My two little kids, they have to lose so much time with their mommy because I get to go work and do what I love, so thank you Nahla, thank you Maceo — I hope you find something in life that you can love and you can do with as much vigour and as much zest as I do what I do.
“I love you guys.”
