The Director and EP of ‘Friends’ came forward to support Matthew Perry after he was trolled by some fans
‘Friends: The Reunion’ director Ben Winston recently came forward to support Matthew Perry after some of his fans left ‘unkind’ comments about the actor’s health. On May 27, the world once again got to see the best cast come together for one more time, Friends: The Reunion, starring Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, David Schwimmer, Jennifer Aniston, and Courteney Cox.
While some people were busy enjoying this special episode, others took to social media sites and expressed their concerns about Matthew Perry’s health after the actor’s slurred speech was noticed during his appearance on the special episode.
Ben said, “He was great. People can sometimes just be unkind. I wish they weren’t. I loved working with him. He’s a brilliantly funny man and I thought he had some great one-liners in the show. I felt just happy and lucky to be in his presence and directing him on something like this.”
Matthew Perry, who played Chandler Bing in one of the best sitcoms of all times from 1994 to 2004, has suffered from drug and alcohol addiction in the past while he was still shooting for the show.
He has always been open about his past and revealed that he couldn’t remember three years of shooting Friends. He has also spent three months in a Los Angeles hospital while battling his health problems.
The executive producer and director of ‘Friends’, Kevin Bright also supported his old friend and colleague, Matthew Perry, during an interview with THR. He said, “I talked to [Matthew]. It was great seeing him again. And what people say is what people say. I don’t have any to say about that, except it was great to see him”, he continued ” And I think he’s very funny on the show. But yes, I think he’s OK. He seems stronger and better since the last time I saw him, and excited about going forward.”
Matthew Perry suffered from Vicodin addiction back in 1997 after a jet-skiing accident.
His ex-girlfriend Kayti Edwards told The Sun that during those days he would take 80 Vicodin in one day. However, the 51-year-old ’17 again’ star was checked into a full rehabilitation program in 1997 and then again in 2001, and has been sober since then.
The trolls didn’t end here, Ed Kavalee, from the Australian panel show, ‘Have You Been Paying Attention?’ mocked Matthew on Monday’s episode of the show. While discussing the Reunion episode with his colleagues, Ed joked about Matthew Perry and his addiction. Answering a question, he said, “Matthew Perry admitted that he had a big crush on Dan Murphy”, which referred to the owner of The Australian liquor store franchise “Dan Murphy’s”.
