Lamar Odom is in deep financial trouble. The 41-year-old former basketball player has to pay over $400k to his ex-girlfriend Liza Morales after he allegedly stopped sending money to pay for child support.
Lamar Odom was sued in a lawsuit by ex-girlfriend Liza Morales in the month of May. The lawsuit claimed that Lamar completely stopped paying his child support and violated an agreement the two had since 2015 for the last six years. Lamar and Liza’s custody arrangement required Lamar to pay over $6000 a month in child support, along with college fees and a premium for a $9 million insurance plan. It even included paying off the rent for the Lower Manhattan apartment where Liza lives with the kids that she and Lamar had.
The lawsuit claims that Lamar was behind on payments for the above-mentioned terms. Eventually, the court hearing ruled in favor of Liza Morales and ordered Lamar Odom to pay up a whopping $380,549, along with rent arrears, legal fees, and college tuition. This list of expensive payoffs also requires him to pay towards a $1 million life insurance policy.
Lamar Odom was also allegedly always late to his court hearings and sometimes he would just not show up.
Lamar also participated in a boxing match against Aaron Carter in June, which paid $40,000. A court hearing in June criticized Lamar Odom for not paying his dues to ex Liza Morales and their kids, citing the boxing match.
“If Mr. Odom is in good enough shape to participate in a boxing match, he’s certainly in good enough shape to abide by his obligations to support his children as set forth in the settlement agreement.”
It’s not like Lamar had nothing to say about the whole situation. In May, Lamar Odom said all he had to say in a lengthy Instagram post.
“I am saddened that in the past 15 years that Liza has not taken the initiative to get a job and create a source of income for herself aside from my monthly payment of child support.”
“I love my adult children and I will support them and their dreams in every way possible. I am no longer shamed by my past mistakes. I own who I am and with a clear mind and conscience I will present my case in court.”
“Life is too short and uncertain for this. Lets all work on being our best selves.”
The post has since been taken down and can no longer be seen on his account.
Lamar Odom and his ex-girlfriend Liza Morales have two children- Destiny, 23-years-old, and Lamar Jr., 19-years-old. The former couple also had a son, Jayden, in 2005, who unfortunately passed away in 2006 due to SIDS (Sudden infant death syndrome).
