Idris Elba was involved in a bit of a nefarious profession before being an actor
Elba recently opened up about his short experience as a security guard at a New York comedy club named Caroline’s. He confessed that before kickstarting his career as an actor he “did a lot of things, some things I’m not proud of.” He went on to reveal that he used to sell weed and had previously sold some to comedian Dave Chapelle.
“I used to sell weed,” explained Idris Elba. “I did that for a little bit just to, you know, help pay the way. I DJ’ed quite a bit. I was a doorman. I was a doorman at Caroline’s comedy club [in New York], which is fascinating now, when I meet the comedians that you kind of remember the English guy. Tall English guy with the funny accent and the little hair,” he continued.
“David Chappelle remembers me ‘cause he used to buy weed from me. Anyway, moving on. Yeah, I did all kinds of things to be honest, all kinds of things,” he added. Well, that certainly explains his entrepreneurial skills!
A bit on the actor’s career achievements
According to AfroTech, the “Knight” actor was named an Officer of the British Empire (OBE) for his “services to drama.” He was also granted the OBE in New Years Honours, therefore his real title is “Sir Idris Elba, People Magazine’s 2018 S*****t Man Alive.”
Not just this, when it comes to his range, the actor has worked in diverse fields. He has been a producer, a director, and an investor in various projects, for example, a genderless skincare line that he co-owns with his wife Sabrina Elba. He has also signed a book contract with HarperCollins and has negotiated a contract with popular anime streaming platform Crunchyroll. He has also proposed a way for online trolls to be held responsible for their actions.
How much is he worth?
