Idris Elba Would Like To Do A Bloodsport Vs. Superman Prequel

That will be an interesting storyline!

Idris Elba will be seen playing the role of a ‘Bloodsport’ in ‘The Suicide Squad’

Idris Elba has recently revealed that he would like to do a prequel for The Suicide Squad to know the story behind his character in the film. Last weekend marked the return of a famous 2016 movie, The Suicide Squad with its second part. The movie, which was released on August, 5, included the return of various stars from the first part of this film. Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Viola Davis (Amanda Waller), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag), and Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang) were the returnees who revived their legendary roles again alongside various newcomers including John Cena, Pete Davidson, and Idris.

The storyline of ‘The Suicide Squad’ revolves around a team of ex-convicts who were gathered together to save the world from danger. Every member of this team has done something terrible and hence ended up in jail. While the story behind many characters is still unknown, Idris Elba decided to reveal his character’s back story. While having an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Elba revealed that his character, ‘Bloodsport,’ ended up in jail for shooting Superman, which seems like a very interesting back story and now the 48-year-old star wants a Bloodsport vs. Superman prequel movie.

“It wouldn’t be next, it would be what came before,” Elba said when asked what he would like to do next in DCU. “I would be really interested to see why he went to jail, why did he shoot Superman? I would love to see that narrative come alive. I didn’t know what character I was playing, but I knew the type of character and I knew the position he played within the storyline. So that’s all I needed to understand, and I signed on. But I did know that he was the first guy to put Superman in the hospital because he shot Superman (laughs), and that’s why he’s in jail,” he said. “That was very intriguing and also became a little bit of a motivation in some of my scenes and my character development.”

Did Idris took over Will Smith’s role?

Another interesting factor behind Idris Elba’s role is that many fans were speculating that he will be taking over as Will Smith’s Deadshot. Earlier it was revealed that Will refused to continue with his character in the sequel of 2016’s ‘The Suicide Squad’, and at the same time, Elba was among the first name to join the sequel, which further led to the rumors of him playing Deadshot. “Those rumors would be natural because Will said he wasn’t joining the second movie, so it was quite natural for audiences or fans to think that I would be taking over the Deadshot character because the Deadshot character lived in the other movie,” Elba said.

“But I’m really satisfied that James [Gunn] didn’t want to do that, I didn’t want to do that. Deadshot is a great character and Will slays it, so I was really keen the audience and fans kept that rumor going [laughs], ” he added.

James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad was praised really well by the critics, however, according to the reports, the film has underperformed at the box office and the reason behind this is the ongoing pandemic as well as its streaming on the HBO Max. But that hasn’t stopped the makers from giving the world other such bangers. As per the reports, a spin-off of this film which will be centered on John Cena’s character is already in the making along with James revealing that he might have some other spin-off ideas as well.
