Fans of the famous sitcom Friends got excited yesterday when Jennifer Aniston and David Schwimmer’s dating news made rounds suggesting the two were finally romantically involved. According to reports by Closer magazine, the duo “stirred up feelings” post the Friends reunion and has been spending time together lately.
The report read, “After the reunion, it became clear that reminiscing over the past had stirred up feelings for both of them and that chemistry they’d always had to bury was still there. They began texting immediately after filming and, just last month, David flew from his home in New York to see Jen in LA where she’s cooked dinners in the evenings, and have enjoyed quality time together, chatting and laughing.”
The report further suggested, “They were also spotted drinking wine, deep in conversation, as they walked around one of Jen’s favourite vineyards in Santa Barbara, where it was clear there was lots of chemistry between them.”
While Twitter and social media couldn’t contain their excitement, the news sadly isn’t true. Schwimmer’s rep denied the rumors, telling Elle UK the story is “false.”
David Schwimmer admitted he “had a major crush on Jen” during the popular reunion special in May and Jennifer Aniston told host James Corden “it was reciprocated” during the show’s run from 1994 to 2004.
“We were both crushing hard on each other, but it was like two ships passing,” Schwimmer, who shares a 10-year-old daughter with ex-wife Zoë Buckman, added of his attraction to Aniston. “One of us was always in a relationship and we never crossed that boundary.” That’s when Aniston also played along confessing that the attraction was mutual.
“I remember saying one time to David, ‘It’s going to be such a bummer if the first time you and I actually kiss is on national television.’ And sure enough, it was,” Aniston said, “We just channeled all of our adoration and love for each other into Ross and Rachel.”
Ross and Rachel’s relationship was one of the biggest and most memorable plotlines across all 10 seasons of Friends, and so, it completely made sense for the two to naturally develop feelings for each other.
While the dating rumours may not be true, the banter between Jennifer Aniston and David Schwimmer is still going strong, which is sure to keep fans entertained despite them not being together in real life.
Aniston and Brad Pitt divorced in 2005, the year after the Friends finale aired. After less than three years of marriage, she and Justin Theroux announced their separation in 2018. As for Schwimmer, he and ex-wife Zoë Buckman parted ways in 2017.
