“We love each other”

Can exes remain friends? Yes, if we were to ask Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux.

Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux may not be dating anymore but they appear to have remained on close terms even after their 2017 split.

Recently, Justin Theroux, 49, opened up to Esquire revealing that he still keeps in touch with his ex-wife Jennifer Aniston, 52, regularly.

“I would say we’ve remained friends. We don’t talk every day, but we call each other,” Theroux stated in the magazine’s latest cover story. “We FaceTime. We text. Like it or not, we didn’t have that dramatic split, and we love each other. I’m sincere when I say that I cherish our friendship.”

Theroux continued, “We cannot be together and still bring each other joy and friendship. Also, she makes me laugh very, very hard. She’s a hilarious person. It would be a loss if we weren’t in contact, for me personally. And I’d like to think the same for her.”

“I think that when you get good at relationships—and here I am, single—if you love the person the same way you loved them in the relationship, it would behoove you to love them the same way out of the relationship,’ he said. ‘Who wants to take a s**t while you’re walking out the door?”

Jennifer Aniston started dating Justin Theroux in 2011 and got engaged the following year before tying the knot in a backyard ceremony in August 2015. They later announced their split in early 2018.

However, the two had settled their split without any hostility and have remained on amiable terms.

“The good news is that was probably the most — I’m choosing my words really carefully — it was kind of the most gentle separation, in that there was no animosity,” he had explained to The New York Times.

“Again, neither one of us is dead, neither one of us is looking to throw hatchets at each other,” he added. “It’s more like, it’s amicable. It’s boring, but, you know, we respected each other enough that it was as painless as it could be.”

It doesn’t mean that Theroux was not affected by the couple parting ways. “It was heartbreaking, only in the sense that the friendship would not be the same, as far as just the day to day,” Theroux said. “But the friendship is shifting and changing, you know, so that part is something that we’re both very proud of.”

The stars have remained good friends ever since — from celebrating Thanksgiving together in 2019 to Theroux posting a sweet tribute for his ex-wife on her 52nd birthday in February.

Some major friendship goals!
