Matters between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard are far from settled yet. The Pirates of the Caribbean actor has applied to the Court of Appeal in a bid to overturn last month’s ruling of the High Court that held he assaulted his ex-wife Amber Heard.

About the Johnny Depp libel case

Johnny Depp had filed a defamation case against News Group Newspapers Ltd for The Sun‘s 2018 article that described him a “wife-beater”.

As the court proceedings began, Johnny Depp and Amber Heard were embroiled in an intense trial that lasted for 16 days before the High Court gave its judgment last month. The court ruled in favour of News Group, saying that the “wife-beater” article was “substantially true” and that Depp was indeed guilty of assaulting his ex-wife.

But the actor won’t go down without a fight. Per Press Association, an application has been submitted to the Court Of Appeal as Depp tries to quash the allegations against him. The grounds of appeal and other details have not been disclosed yet.

Judge Andrew Nicol, who presided over the libel case, denied Depp an appeal in his court. However, he gave the actor time till December 7 to apply directly to the Court Of Appeal to overturn his judgment.

Moreover, post the court hearing, Warner Bros. asked Johnny Depp to step down from the Fantastic Beasts franchise. The 57-year-old actor made his plans to appeal again known when he announced the news of his departure on social media.

“The surreal judgment of the court in the UK will not change my fight to tell the truth and I confirm that I plan to appeal,” he wrote.

“My resolve remains strong and I intend to prove that the allegations against me are false. My life and career will not be defined by this moment in time.”

After Johnny Depp was made to exit from Fantastic Beasts 3, fans started a petition to remove Amber Heard from Aquaman 2. Now, there are reports that Depp himself tried to get Heard replaced on the movie after their split.

Did Johnny Depp try to get Amber Heard replaced on Aquaman?

Relations between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard have been tense since long. As per recent reports, Depp even tried to get Heard replaced on Aquaman post their split.

According to the details mentioned in Depp’s U.K. libel case as obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, the star approached his sister, producer Christi Dembrowski.

THR further reports that during the trial, Depp admitted this statement was in reference to the Warner Bros. film Aquaman, in which Heard starred alongside Jason Momoa.
