Although Karen Gillan debuted as a villain in the first Guardians of the Galaxy, Nebula has moved on to become a member of the cosmic super-team and one of the MCU’s more under appreciated heroines. Nebula’s popularity has also done wonders for Karen Gillan’s career. Few actors tend to leave the MCU behind after creating a specific number of movies. But, Karen Gillan wants to keep playing the character, Nebula.
Writer or Director James Gunn and Drax actor Dave Bautista have both agreed that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will probably be their last Marvel film.
However, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Gillan expressed her wish to stay with the franchise in the future.
“I love my character so much. I’m sort of obsessed with her. (Laughs.) I just get such a kick out of playing a character that’s really removed from myself,” said Gillan. “But I also feel really emotionally invested in her through everything that she’s gone through with Thanos and all of that. So I would love to continue the journey of the character. I don’t know what that would really look like without James or Dave, but I really like playing her, so I’m not eager to finish.”
Karen Gillan has been busy promoting Netflix’s Gunpowder Milkshake and she’s been inundated with Guardians-related questions. While speaking with THR, the actor confirmed the script for Guardians 3 has changed and she has yet to read through the latest iteration of the script.
“I’ve read one, but I haven’t read the new one. I read one a long time ago,” Gillan shared. “It could be completely different now, but what I read was amazing.”
The actor said earlier that the script she read of the feature was one of James Gunn’s best scripts written.
Guardians of the Galaxy’s first two movies are now streaming on Disney+ while Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is yet to hit theatres on May 5, 2023.
