Katy Perry just revealed the real-life inspiration behind her 2019 hit love song “Harleys in Hawaii,” thanks to the latest TikTok trend. Users these days are lip syncing to a slowed-down version of the Perry’s song while turning their camera to the side. The mid-tempo single initially charted outside the U.S. in New Zealand, Scotland, and Canada, and that’s what got Perry talking about the inspiration behind it.
In a new Instagram post, Perry showed that the catchy tune was inspired by a romantic trip that she took with fiancé Orlando Bloom to Hawaii. Along with it, she also shared a bunch of snaps from their trip and even posted a video of them on a motorcycle.
“Should I do the #youandiiiiiiii challenge on tiktok or na? Last slide is a lil video from the ride that actually inspired Harley’s In Hawaii 🌺,” she captioned the post.
In the song, Perry sings, “You and I, I / Ridin’ Harleys in Hawaii-i-i / I’m on the back, I’m holdin’ tight, I / Want you to take me for a ride, ride. Boy, tell me, can you take my breath away? / Cruisin’ down a heart-shaped highway / Got you swervin’ lane-to-lane, don’t hit the brakes / ‘Cause I’m feelin’ so safe.”
Now we know where those lyrics came from.
But this isn’t the first time that Katy Perry has noted her and Bloom’s island getaway was the inspiration behind the single.
In a July 2019 interview with the Zach Sang Show, she recalled the exact moment when she knew a song was born during their time away.
“We rented a Harley because we were just there for a few days,” she explained. “You know, to be on the back of a motorcycle in Hawaii and just let the air flowing on your face…It’s so beautiful. It was awesome! But I can remember specifically where I was—the street corner I was at in Oahu—and turning that corner and whispering to Orlando, going, ‘I’m going to write a song called ‘Harleys In Hawaii.'”
How romantic is that! It totally makes us wonder how many Katy Perry songs Bloom must have inspired so far.
Apart from this trending song of hers, Katy Perry has turned up the heat on Instagram this week. She celebrated some good news with fans.
The 36-year-old singer posed for two striking photos wearing a soft pink gown that featured a daring thigh-high split. She also showcased a brand new hair color, debuting a statement orange shade with straightened locks that fell to her waist.
Wearing bright red lipstick, she posed with an array of matching love heart balloons.
“1 BILLION TOTAL @SPOTIFY STREAMS OF #SMILE TIME TO BRING OUT THE BIG BALLOONS, thanks KCs!” Katy captioned her post.
The news comes just a few weeks after she celebrated daughter Daisy Dove’s first birthday.
