Katy Perry To Perform On SNL With Willem Dafoe Later This Month

Willem Dafoe doesn’t exactly slot himself into an overwhelming amount of comedies.

Katy Perry and Willem Dafoe are coming together on SNL, NBC announced Tuesday with the Spider-Man: No Way Home star making his hosting debut on Jan. 29. Katy Perry will be present as musical guest, who will be marking her fourth time on the SNL stage, after her appearances in 2010, 2013 and 2017.

Announcing her appearance at the upcoming episode, Katy Perry took to Instagram writing, “Live from New York, it’s 🍄PLAY🍄 Can’t wait to bring my slice of Sin City to the Big Apple🍎 (and ur 📺)”

The “Firework” singer is currently headlining her first Las Vegas residency, PLAY, at Resorts World Theatre.

Perry’s Las Vegas residency kicked off on December 29, taking over The Theatre at Resorts World resort/casino until mid-March. The opening night of the over-the-top show saw Perry roll out a 16-foot-tall toilet, ride a giant snail and more.

The show features a career-spanning set from Perry that includes the likes of ‘California Gurls’, ‘Hot n Cold’, ‘Waking Up in Vegas’, ‘I Kissed a Girl’, ‘Teenage Dream’, ‘Roar’ and more, along with her recently-released Alesso collaboration ‘When I’m Gone’.

While Katy Perry is a SNL pro, Willem Dafoe doesn’t exactly slot himself into an overwhelming amount of comedies. If you look back at his filmography career he has stuck to action, horror, and other lighter aesthetic fare. His memorable work remains in the “Spider-Man” series. However, it seems like he is looking for more.

Recently he took a magazine interview to suggest an idea—based on popular fan casting, where he could play a version of a Joker, potentially in a Joker sequel alongside Joaquin Phoenix.

“There is something interesting about, like, if there was a Joker imposter,” Dafoe said in a recent interview with GQ. “So it would be possible to have not only dueling Jokers but someone that says to be the Joker that isn’t the Joker. And that kind of opens up the possibility of an interesting story, particularly if you had Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker, and then you had someone who was either imitating or riffing off what he did. I fantasized about that. But other than that I am not talking to anybody [about it], you’re the first one.”

Saturday Night Live resumed Season 47 last weekend with first-time host Ariana DeBose (West Side Story) and first-time musical guest Bleachers.

SNL alum Will Forte will host the Jan. 22 episode, with Italian rock band Måneskin — winner of the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest — handling musical duties.
