Kim Kardashian Declared Legally Single, Divorce From Kanye West Finalized

Kanye West was not in attendance for the hearing.

Kim Kardashian’s request to be declared legally single from rapper Kanye West after filing for a divorce a year ago has been granted by a Los Angeles judge on Wednesday.

The “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” citied irreconcilable differences with West after nearly eight years of marriage, who has legally changed his name to Ye. She will no longer be known as Kim Kardashian West.

Kim’s request was approved during a virtual court hearing on Wednesday. While West was not in attendance for the hearing, his attorney was present and did not object to Kardashian restoring her maiden name or being declared single, TMZ reports.

Judge Steve Cochran asked Kim Kardashian a series of questions, including “is it your desire to become a single person?” Kardashian answered “yes” to all. “It is granted,” Cochran said.

“The Court grants termination of the marital status,” the judge said in a written order issued after a public hearing.

Upon her request to be granted the single status, Kanye’s lawyer outlined three conditions to the single status on behalf of his client, including the the right to get reimbursed money that is supposed to be divided up between the exes in case either party dies. The condition was granted by the judge.

However, Kanye’s other two requests were rejected, which included his request to make sure Kardashian is unable to transfer any assets she has in a trust. West also asked that if the reality star remarries, she must waive her “marital privilege,” meaning a new spouse would not have to testify about communications he had with her. The judge also rejected that request.

Kanye West, 44, had objected to the divorce from Kim Kardashian and publicly appealed for his wife to return to their marriage.

In recent Instagram posts, he criticized her parenting and her new relationship with “Saturday Night Live” actor Pete Davidson.

Last month, the Skims founder called out the “Gold Digger” rapper for his lack of action amid their ongoing divorce battle after he slammed Kardashian’s parenting approach when she let their daughter North post videos on TikTok. Kim Kardashian and Kanye West share four children.

“I wish to handle all matters regarding our children privately and hopefully he can finally respond to the third attorney he has had in the last year to resolve any issues amicably,” the TV personality wrote via Instagram in February.

In the court documents, Kardashian stated, “I very much desire to be divorced. I have asked Kanye to keep our divorce private, but he has not done so. Kanye has been putting a lot of misinformation regarding our private family matters and co-parenting on social media which has created emotional distress.”

Kardashian’s court filing continued, “I believe that the Court terminating our marital status will help Kanye to accept that our marital relationship is over and to move forward on a better path which will assist us in peacefully co-parenting our children.”
