Kristen Bell And Dax Shepard Talk About Taking Individual Therapy Sessions

That’s a good idea!

During a recent appearance in the “The Ellen DeGeneres Show“, Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard opened up about the struggles in their marriage that they faced during the pandemic and how they use therapy to solve them. On Tuesday’s episode, Kristen Bell went a little candid about her marriage with the guest host Chelsea Handler. “At the beginning of the pandemic, we were at each other’s throats, and then all the doors locked in our house, like, we had to stay inside, and we were like, ‘Woof, we need to get a handle on the annoyances,” she revealed.

However, the couple’s therapist had an idea about how Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard can deal with their pandemic problems and suggested that the couple should take individual therapy sessions. “He suggested we go to therapy separately, kinda, so that we could talk shit about each other” Kristen explained. “And we did, and it’s been great. What we’ve been doing the last couple of months is, every two weeks or so, I’ll see Harry via Zoom and complain about Dax, and then he’ll give me all the reasons why I’m wrong, and then Dax will do the same,” she added.

The ‘Gossip Girl’ alum then revealed that this idea has helped them a lot.

“And then, by the time we meet up in the evening, we love each other again because our toolboxes are bigger,” she said. Kristen had a simple explanation for their need for individual therapy sessions, as according to her, “When you have a third party moderating any disagreement, it’s always the safer place,” she added. “Because when two people are talking, defense mechanisms and cortisol and all that stuff, it just messes up the solution.”

Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard tied knots with each other in 2013 and share two daughters, Lincoln, 8, and Delta, 6.

The couple has been a fan of couples therapy for a very long time and according to Bell, it is nothing to be embarrassed about. “There may be something that really hurt your feelings that you’re scared to bring up. Go talk about it with a therapist who can mediate. You’ll walk out of the room feeling like you’re [on the same] team.” she said in a 2015 interview.

Dax, who is currently running his own podcast, ‘Armchair Expert,’ with co-host Monica Padman is also a firm believer of couples therapy and thinks that it should be started before it’s too late. The 46-year-old actor has previously suffered from cocaine and alcohol addictions, however, he has been 16 years sober now and is doing great with his family and work.
