Lily James and Dominic West were caught in a scandalous rumor after photos of the two getting cozy surfaced.
Last year, Lily James, 32, and Dominic West, 51, were photographed looking cozy while shooting for their upcoming drama – the BBC adaptation of Nancy Mitford’s 1945 novel Pursuit of Love. The photos showed the two enjoying an intimate lunch with West seemingly nuzzling James’ neck and kissing her while in Italy.
The issue? The scandalous photos raised some eyebrows since Dominic West is married.
Dominic West is married to Irish wife, Catherine Fitzgerald since 2010. The couple even share four children together.
After the photos emerged, Dominic flew straight to his wife in the UK. In an attempt to clear the air, or rather making the matter more suspicious – West immediately put up a bizarre photoshoot with his wife. Putting on a united front outside their home, they hugged, kissed and passed along a handwritten letter to the press, which read: “Our marriage is strong and we’re very much still together. Thank you.”
Catherine even spoke to the Daily Mail stating things were “fine” between the couple.
“We’re fine, thank you very much, yes we are. Things are OK between us. We don’t need any advice from anyone, thank you,” she said. However, following the scandal Catherine reportedly restricted Dominic from working with Lily James.
At the time, sources to E! News revealed, James was “mortified and embarrassed by the entire thing.”
Lily James was “shocked when she saw the photos and his story that he is happily married.”
The source added, “She wants it all to go away and is just laying low hoping it will pass quickly.”
Now, seven months later Lily James finally broke her silence over the matter. “You found yourself at the center of a media storm last autumn. What was that like?,” the Guardian asked Lily James point-blank.
Lily then responded, “Ach, I’m not really willing to talk about that. There is a lot to say, but not now, I’m afraid.”
The Rebecca star did not add anything further but surely hinted she may address the rumor sooner or later.
Notably, in a 2016 interview with The Evening Standard, West had stated: “It’s daft to kick someone out over a fling. Isn’t it? Everyone should turn a blind eye to men’s behavior between the ages of 40 and 50. Let it all blow over.”
