Let’s take a look back at Brie Larson’s implicit protest against Casey Affleck during the biggest night of his life, the 98th Oscars Awards.
The upcoming “Captain Marvel 2”, Brie Larson is without a doubt one of the most “WOKE” women of our generations. Ever since her Oscar-award-winning performance in 2015’s drama “Room”, she has been a strong advocate for s**ual assault survivors.
Her duty of presenting the “Best Actor in a Leading Role” award to the controversial actor Casey Affleck during the 98th Oscar Awards did not stop her from hiding her strong moral values.
When Brie Larson read the card containing the name of the winner (Casey Affleck) and announced it, she did not applause for Ben Affleck’s brother. Instead, she reacted coldly to the audience’s standing applause to Casey’s big win.
Why did Brie Larson protest against Casey Affleck?
In 2010, Casey Affleck had just got done, settling with lawsuits against him, which alleged him of s**ually assaulting his female colleagues. As the lawsuits were cleared outside court, it was and is still unclear whether who was in the right.
What really made the moment of her protest so empowering was that Brie Larson had won her “Best Actress in a Leading Role” Oscar for playing the role of a rape victim in “Room”, the year before Casey’s win.
She had even told Vanity Fair back in 2017 that she really meant her cold reaction. “I think that whatever it was that I did onstage kind of spoke for itself,” stated Brie Larson. “I’ve said all that I need to say about that topic.”
While we all are waiting for Captain Marvel 2, in the mean time, Brie Larson revealed on her Youtube channel about the tough time she had doing the stunts for “Captain Marvel”.
She revealed in a “Captain Marvel Q&A” that:
“Honestly, probably the hardest scene for me was doing the fight sequence on the train. Because it was the first three days of shooting. So, in my first three days on set as Captain Marvel on the film Captain Marvel was doing like judo throws of my fellow stunt team members on a moving train.”
