Mark Hamill expressed his gratitude for director Peyton Reed’s decision of including him in the Mandalorian finale and allowing him to properly reprise his role of Luke Skywalker, after some of his disappointments in the new Star Wars trilogy, by replying to the tweet stating-

“Dear @MrPeytonReed, I am so grateful to have been given the unexpected opportunity to revisit my character when he was still a symbol of hope & optimism. Your assured direction & kindness was a crucial element in the experience & means more to me than I can say.”

Why is the Mandalorian finale such a big deal?

Any Star Wars fan will admit to getting goosebumps when they watched the Mandalorian finale- “Chapter 16: The Rescue”. Right near the end of the episode, we saw Mando and his crew losing, as their plan to rescue Baby Yoda went awry with a whole platoon of dark troopers being activated and ready to kill our heroes. Then we saw an act of Deus ex machina with an unidentified spacecraft coming towards the cruiser with the viewers sitting right at the edge of their seat upon seeing that the spacecraft is a rebellion X-wing. A black-robed person boards the ship, turns on a green lightsaber and slices all the dark troopers down without any effort. We found are jaws dropped, when the hooded Jedi reached the deck and took off his hood to reveal that he is the Jedi-master, Luke Skywalker. As The Mandalorian takes place right between the era after the original Star Wars trilogy and before the new flop trilogy, we got to see Luke Skywalker in his prime, when he was a symbol of hope. This was achieved via special de-ageing effects and a stand-in actor, whose body was used along with Mark Hamill’s face.
