1. The Last Duel
The Last Duel was one of the most anticipated Matt Damon’s upcoming movies of 2020 which got postponed to October 15, 2021, due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The movie’s premise is set in the region of King Charles VI. Matt Damon plays the role of a knight, Jean de Carrouges who is ordered by the king to settle his disputes with his squire in a duel.
This is a reunion of director Ridley Scott and Matt Damon. The two have worked together in 2015’s The Martian. The cast of the movie also includes Adam Driver, Jodie Comer, and Ben Affleck. It is written by Ben Affleck, Nicole Holofcener and Matt Damon himself. It is a drama-thriller film based on The Last Duel: A True Story of Trial by Combat in Medieval France by Eric Jager.
Matt Damon’s upcoming movie Stillwater stars Abigail Breslin. The shooting of the film was going on in Coyle, Oklahoma during November where the scenes were shot with real police and OHP on the sets according to the productions. The plot of the movie revolves around a father played by Matt, who is traveling from Oklahoma to France to help his daughter who has been accused of murder. Matt Damon’s upcoming movie shows the struggle of the father in a foreign land with a language barrier who is trying to fight the complicated legal system.
The director of the movie is Spotlight fame, Tom McCarthy. Stillwater also features Camille Cottin, Deanna Dunagan, Robert Peters, and Ginifer Ree. The film is based on a screenplay by Thomas Bidegain, Noe Debré, McCarthy, and Marcus Hinchey. Steve Golin, McCarthy, Jonathan King, and Liza Chasin are producing.
Initially, the Hollywood Reporter stated the movie’s release date to be November 6 by Focus Features. But then it got postponed to November 13 and 20 and now the movie’s official website says “Coming Soon” with no confirmed release dates.
3. No Sudden Move
One can never forget the memorable cameos of Matt Damon in Deadpool 2 and Thor: Ragnarok. Following this, he had been asked to appear in Soderbergh’s HBO Max film No Sudden Move. He has also appeared in quite a handful of Soderbergh’s films like Ocean’s Eleven, Twelve and Thirteen, Contagion, The Informant, Behind the Candelabra, Unsane, and Che: Part Two.
No Sudden Move is an American crime thriller focusing on a group of criminals in Detroit in 1995. These small-time criminals steal a simple document as instructed by an anonymous person and find themselves into a situation where the plan goes horribly wrong and weaves them all together to find the owner of the contact.
The film includes a star-studded cast of Don Cheadle, Benicio Del Toro, David Harbour, Amy Seimetz, Jon Hamm, Ray Liotta, Kieran Culkin, Brendan Fraser, Noah Jupe, Bill Duke, Frankie Shaw, and Julia Fox.
4. The Force
Matt Damon’s upcoming movie The Force is with his Ford v Ferrari director James Mangold. It is an adaptation of the 2017 bestselling novel The Force by Don Winslow. Mangold started filming the movie back in 2017 but he shifted his gears to the $216.3 million sports drama Ford v Ferrari.
According to Deadline, Damon is all set to play NYPD detective Denny Malone in The Force who runs an elite crime-fighting squad. But finds himself in a “corruption scandal” and is asked to testify against his own loyal yet dirty team by the Faustian. Damon has already played the role of a cop in Martin Scorsese‘s The Departed hence, it would be interesting to see how he deals with this complex cop character.
The movie was said to be out in 2019 but it is now in the pre-production stage. The first draft of the movie was given by David Mamet but Mangold and Scott Frank have been working on the subsequent drafts.
