The world was shocked by Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Oprah Winfrey interview. But even the hostess got “surprised” with the Sussexes’ revelations about the royal family. Oprah said that Meghan’s goal was to “tell their story truthfully” but she “went all the way”. The hostess confessed this during an explosive interview with Nancy O’Dell. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Oprah Winfrey interview was aired on March 8. The talk rose several allegations against the British royal family.
Even Prince Harry admitted to there being a wedge between the brothers. He said that his and Prince William’s relationship was now just “space” which he hopefully believed that time will heal. After the death of their grandfather, Prince Philip, both of them met at the St George’s Chapel. A friend told People that although the meeting was a “good start and lovely to see”, the rift “runs so deep. I don’t think there is any quick fix.”
Oprah had done preparations for the interview
Oprah Winfrey looked back on the explosive statements given by Meghan Markle on Nancy O’Dell’s Channel. She was there to promote her book, What Happened To You? Conversations on Trauma, Resilience, and Healing. “I had no idea that it would have the reverberating impact it has had and continues to have. I did a lot of preparation for that,” she said. The 67-year-old also confessed that she was shocked when Meghan claimed that there had been “conversations with Harry about how dark [Archie’s] skin might be when he’s born“. “I’m like, ‘What? You’re going there? You’re going all the way there,'” the hostess said of her thought process at that time.
Oprah Winfrey texted Meghan Markle and Prince Harry before the interview. She wanted to know about their “intentions” so that they can be aligned in their goal and share the truth. “They wanted to be able to tell their story and tell it in such a way that allowed them to be as truthful as possible.” “The reason why it was such a powerful interview — first of all, I know how to ask questions, and you [Nancy] know how to ask questions, we all know how to do our jobs, but what makes it powerful is when you have someone else who is willing to be as open, as vulnerable, as truthful, as they were,” she continued.
“So, I don’t give myself credit for that, I give myself credit for asking the questions, but the reason the interview was what it was, was because they answered the way they did.”
Oprah trusted the people with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s interview
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s candid conversation also needed to be safeguarded Oprah Winfrey told. “It was really important to me that what we put out there in the world was put out at the time everyone could see it and that things didn’t leak, and things weren’t misconstrued before the actual interview happened.”
“So I remember when we finished doing the interview and that interview was 3 hours and 20 minutes I think, and I stood up and said to the crew, we all know what was said here, and how important it is to have the trust of the people who just shared that, and so I’m hoping you all will not go out into the world and share what has happened here. And nobody did. And so, as we were releasing clips to CBS, we were releasing them in such a way that whatever was being put out there could not be exploited. So a lot of time and effort and energy went into it on my part.”
Surely Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Oprah Winfrey interview brought the Royal family into the spotlight and after the demise of Prince Charles, it feels like things are only going south. Although Meghan is pregnant with their second child which is a girl. Also, they have left their royal titles, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex. And have started their new life as normal citizens in California.
