Thomasin McKenzie is all set to portray the role of gymnast Kerri Strug, the iconic American gymnast who was part of The Magnificent Seven, the victorious all-around women’s gymnastics team that represented the United States at the 1996 Summer Olympics. The search for the perfect actor to represent Kerri Strug has been quite the task and Olivia Wilde might just have nailed it with Thomasin McKenzie considering her amazing acting in the Taika Waititi movie Jojo Rabbit.
The upcoming Kerri Strug movie being directed by Olivia Wilde is titled “Perfect”. The plot is supposed to revolve around the time when the 1996 Atlanta Games took place & depict the “unflinching portrait of grit and determination that charts the story behind Strug’s historic Olympic vault, which secured America its first-ever gold medal in team gymnastics,” as reported by Deadline.
Thomasin McKenzie has also drawn quite the praise from the director of her new movie Olivia Wilde, who has reportedly said that she would “bow down” to Thomasin McKenzie. Wilde had nothing but high praise for her newly cast actress Thomasin McKenzie, confirming that McKenzie is perfect for the role of Kerri Strug-
“One reason I needed to direct movies was to work with genius women in great roles worthy of their skills.”
“This story is complicated and challenging and heartbreaking and beautiful, and I could not imagine a better partner to tell it with than Thomasin. She is fearless, ladies and gentlemen. I bow down.”
Olivia Wilde has come a long way with directing movies ever since her critically-praised directorial debut, Booksmart, a coming of age comedy about two high school girls graduating and partying after, earned Wilde a respectable status in the film industry. She has since directed a short movie called “Wake Up” which starred Once Upon A Time In Hollywood star Margaret Qualley.
“Perfect” will be Olivia Wilde’s directorial debut in the biopic genre. Wilde will direct the movie with the script being written by Ronnie Sandahl. The movie is in the works at Searchlight Pictures studios.
Production for the movie is expected to start in January of next year, just in time to follow the release of Wilde’s star studded thriller “Don’t Worry Darling” which stars well known names such as Florence Pugh, Gemma Chan and even singer-songwriter Harry Styles!
