Phoebe Bridgers, the 27-year-old musician recently unveiled her first original song “Sidelines” from Hulu‘s adaptation of Sally Rooney’s hit novel, “Conversations With Friends”. This is her first singe ever since her Grammy-nominated 2020 album “Punisher” came out.
A little bit on Phoebe Bridgers’ “Sidelines”
The song is a slow and melancholic number from the indie singer-songwriter carrying her signature sound in its core, one that she has eventually come around to be loved by people for. The track wears its emotions on its sleeves, crooning unabashedly sad lines like “I used to think you could hear the ocean in a seashell/ What a childish thing.”
All in all, the track is a perfect fit for Sally Rooney’s “Conversations With Friends” which features bittersweet moments from the lives of regular people, some of them good or bad, redeemable and unsalvageable or kind and cruel.
Phoebe Bridger’s “Sidelines” is available for streaming on all major music streaming platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Deezer, Tidal and YouTube.
The singer recently took to Twitter to note that the monochromatic image used as the cover picture for Sidelines featuring a man riding a bull is actually her grandfather. “I put a new song out. It’s called Sidelines. This is my grandpa,” she wrote in the tweet.
The singer’s motivation to write the song
According to reports, Phoebe Bridgers was asked to write “Sidelines” after producers of the show found out that the singer is a fan of Rooney’s writings. It was inspired by the story and has been co-written by the singer’s frequent collaborators, Marshall Vore and Ruby Rain Henley.
In a press release shared by the musician, she said that this is the only song that she will be releasing in 2022.
What has she been up to lately?
Currently, she is in the middle of her Goliath Reunion Tour, which has been organized to support her album “Punisher”. She will be performing in front of thousands of fans in North America and the U.K. and Europe for the first time. She has added more shows in Brooklyn, Glasgow, Manchester and Vancouver.
