Playboi Carti’s Whole Lotta Red: Reviews, Sales & Why Iggy Azalea Lashed Out

The album seems to be receiving a whole lotta love now!

Playboi Carti’s second studio album, Whole Lotta Red, came out on Christmas day and the love for it was carried well into 2021.

Whole Lotta Red is atop the Billboard Top 200 this week, becoming the rapper’s first album to grab the No. 1 spot on the chart. As Billboard reported, the album had earned 100,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. by the end of its first week.

Playboi Carti’s reaction to this news made it clear that he is indeed excited to have achieved this feat. “”!!!!! wTF. wE r # 1,” he tweeted on January 3.

Carti’s latest album had been much anticipated and the hype surrounding it was real. The rapper had announced the project soon after his album Die Lit came out in 2018.

With his newest release, Carti has held onto his signature style – of mumbled lyrics and catchy, melodic music. But at the same time, the album is more than what he has ever done in the past.

The cover of the EP is inspired by the iconic Punk magazine Slash and so is its music.

Whole Lotta Red features a total of 24 songs and includes collaborations with other artists, including Kanye West, Future and Kid Cudi.

The album had been two years in the making and it divided fans upon its release. Many who excepted the album to be a mere extension of Die Lit found themselves disappointed. But it seems like people are coming to appreciate the album now, or else it wouldn’t have topped the prestigious Billboard chart.

Here’s why Iggy Azalea was hating on Playboi Carti’s Whole Lotta Red

Immediately after its release, Whole Lotta Red received mixed reactions and some hate not only from Carti’s fans, but also from Iggy Azalea.

Iggy Azalea and Playboi Carti became parents to a baby boy, Onyx Carter, this year and the Fancy singer announced the same via social media in June.

This Christmas was particularly special for Iggy Azalea, since it was Onyx’s first, and the new mum wasn’t too pleased with the fact that Carti decided to skip it to release his album. Thus started Iggy Azalea’s Twitter tirade, though some of the tweets have been deleted now.

“I would never decide to do something of my own free will that meant missing a milestone moment with my son & if you do you’re trash,” her first tweet went.

“Too bad you got an album out but can’t even come to Christmas with your own son,” she tweeted after Whole Lotta Red came out.

The singer also revealed that Playboi Carti cheated on her during her pregnancy. The two split in October.

She further added that the rapper cancelled on their Christmas plans less than two days before the holiday. Per her tweets, Iggy, Playboi Carti and Onyx had a family vacation planned which Carti later backed out of.
