Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra Jonas have been planning a baby for quite some time, and they’ve been preparing their Los Angeles home accordingly.
A source told People, the Jonas Brothers musician, 29, and the Matrix Resurrections actress, 39, who welcomed their first child, a daughter, via surrogate on Saturday, Jan. 15, were already thinking about expanding their family when they purchased their Encino, Calif. mansion together in 2019.
”When they bought the house together, they had children in mind,” the source says. “They were hoping to have kids and needed a place with a lot of outdoor space and greenery.”
The enormous property, which they purchased for $20 million, set a record for being the most expensive home ever sold in Encino, a San Fernando Valley suburb, according to Dirt at the time.
Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra, who married in 2018, “spent months renovating the house” after moving in, according to the source. They said, “They wanted to make it more family-friendly.”
“We are overjoyed to confirm that we have welcomed a baby via surrogate. We respectfully ask for privacy during this special time as we focus on our family,” Chopra Jonas and Jonas said on their own Instagram profiles in a combined post.
In late 2018, Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra married in two lavish ceremonies in front of 225 guests at the Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur, India.
While the happy pair married in Jodhpur, they held two weddings — one Hindu and one Christian — over the course of five days to celebrate each of their traditions.
“It was literally what dreams were made of,” Chopra Jonas told People exclusively of their Mehndi (when they were both covered with henna tattoos) and a Sangeet that night, in which both families performed elaborate musical performances with dance and festive costumes.
Chopra Jonas told the outlet that they were taking things one day at a time following their happy wedding. “I always say, ‘Man proposes, God disposes.’ So I’m not taking any chances,” remarked the actress.
“We definitely want kids,” she said, “and when the time is right, it will happen.”
