Rege Jean Page is going to depart from Netflix’s Bridgerton, as the charming star won’t be reprising his role of the Duke of Hastings, Simon Basset, in the upcoming season 2.
On the official Instagram and Twitter page of Bridgerton, a message in the form of a letter written by Lady Whistledown revealed that Rege Jean Page and his character of Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings, will not be seen in season 2.
The letter read as follows:
“While all eyes turn to Lord Anthony Bridgerton’s quest to find a Viscountess, we bid adieu to Regé-Jean Page, who so triumphantly played the Duke of Hastings,” the letter read. “We’ll miss Simon’s presence onscreen, but he will always be a part of the Bridgerton family.”
The letter also revealed to fans that Rege’s on-screen beau, Daphne Bridgerton, played by Phoebe Dynevor, is sure to return in Bridgerton season 2.
“Daphne will remain a devoted wife and sister, helping her brother navigate the upcoming social season and what it has to offer — more intrigue and romance than my readers may be able to bear.”
Rege Jean Page also personally addressed his exit from Bridgerton ahead of its season 2. He posted a picture of himself dressed as the Duke of Hastings, Simon Basset sitting atop a horse, tipping his hat.
He described his stint on the show as “The ride of a life time.” He further wrote that “It’s been an absolute pleasure and a privilege to be your Duke. Joining this family – not just on screen, but off screen too. Our incredibly creative and generous cast, crew, outstanding fans – it’s all been beyond anything I could have imagined. The love is real and will just keep growing”.

“[I thought] ‘That’s interesting,’ because then it felt like a limited series. I get to come in, I get to contribute my bit and then the Bridgerton family rolls on.”
