The 2021 Grammys are happening at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles. But for fans, the glamour of the award show is missing all but one- Rihanna.
Online searches indicate that fans are waiting to see Billie Eilish, Taylor Swift, Harry Styles, BTS and Beyoncé – all the nominated names from this year’s Grammys but Rihanna’s stands trending among others.
It is surprising to see Rihanna’s name included in the top searches, when the singer hasn’t been nominated in any category. Neither has she put out any new music in five years.
Rihanna’s fan base- known as “The Navy”- has already been requesting the “Umbrella” singer to release some new music after her extremely long break. Her label, Roc Nation, has also decided to stay mum on the topic. The Post reached out to a representative about the status of her rumored album with the name “R9.” The representative, however, brushed off the any such speculations saying, Don’t know … haven’t heard anything.”
Rihanna has reportedly been putting together a reggae- inspired album , since the summer of 2018. In December 2019, she suggested that she has been hearing the desperate rumors of a new album by trolling her fans by uploading a video of a puppy frantically hopping around in a cardboard box with the House of Pain song “Jump Around” blasting in the background. “Update: me listening to R9 by myself and refusing to release it,” she captioned the video.
Rihanna has constantly been snapping at her fans asking for a new album. When she posted vacation photos on Instagram earlier this year, with the caption “New Year’s resolution: apply the pressure,” a fan commented: “Resolution should be releasing the new album.”
“This comment is sooo 2019. Grow up,” Rihanna responded. “2021 energy.”
The Grammy searches show that fans are still hopeful for some new music even after a long five-year hiatus.
While we wait for the new album, Rihanna is blissfully enjoying her new relationship with A$AP Rocky.
Since 2005, Rihanna has bagegd six consecutive multiplatinum albums, 14 No. 1 singles, 50-plus Top 40 hits and 93.1 million Instagram followers.
