Popular ‘The CW’ series and teen drama Riverdale is coming back for season 5. The series is well loved, and the characters like Archie Andrews, Betty Cooper, Jughead Jones, and Veronica Lodge have gathered a massive fan following all over the world. And seems like we will get to see a new face in the cast.

Riverdale, is in fact, casting ‘Broadchurch’ and ‘Vampire Academy’ star Chris Mason, in the role of Chad Gekko, Veronica’s husband. But there’s a catch. Apparently, the character is already being criticized for being ‘controlling and jealous’.

According to Deadline, Chris Mason’s character is described as a “controlling and jealous husband who works on Wall Street. An Alpha dog, Chad is threatened by Veronica’s life in Riverdale, especially her friendship with Archie (KJ Apa).”

The newest addition to the Riverdale series will be introduced in the fourth episode of season 5 that will air on Wednesday, February 10, according to CBR.com. This episode will even serve as the one where there will be a seven year jump in the main story.

Chris Mason is a British actor who has also appeared in other popular TV shows like ‘Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists’, ‘Dirty John’, ‘The American Guest’ among others.

What to expect from Riverdale season 5

Riverdale season 5 will focus on the characters’ final days as high school students and all the emotional and tear-jerking moments they go through. The show will then fast forward to their lives as young adults as their return to Riverdale to get away from a troubled past.

According to CBR.com, Riverdale season 5 will return to the screens on January 20 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.

Casts reaction on the new season

The cast also seems extremely stoked with the release of Riverdale season 5. In an interview with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show in August 2020, Lili Reinhart, who plays the character of Betty Cooper opened up saying, “”We’re not gonna be teenagers anymore. I’m psyched about it. I think it’ll be nice to play an adult. But I also really appreciate Roberto, our showrunner, was like, yeah, let’s revamp. We’re not stuck in high school for seven seasons.”
