‘Saved By The Bell’ Actor Dustin Diamond Hospitalized, Cancer Feared

His family has a history of cancer

‘Saved by the Bell’ alum Dustin Diamond has been hospitalized and his medical team fears he may have cancer. The doctors are running a battery of tests to deduce what his medical condition is. He is also getting a biopsy done.

Dustin Diamond was hospitalized in Florida over the weekend after he complained of body pain and unease.

Dustin’s family has a history of cancer and the 44-year-old lost his mother to breast cancer.

An insider told Fox News that the actor is scared but remains optimistic he will pull through. “He’s always going to remain upbeat — that’s just who he is in that respect,” the entertainment portal reported.

Dustin Diamond rose to fame playing ‘Screech’ Powers on the 1988 Disney sitcom ‘Saved by the Bell’. He played the role for four seasons, till 1993. He also starred in the 1992 TV movie Saved By The Bell: Hawaiian Style.

In 1994, a spin-off of the coming-of-age drama was made. It included Diamond in the cast and ran till 2000.

Why was Dustin Diamond not in Saved by the Bell reboot?

Despite all the love his character Screech received, Diamond was absent from the reboot of the series, which aired on Peacock last year.

The California actor has been involved in several controversies throughout his career. In 2009, he wrote a memoir “Behind The Bell”, which talked about his co-stars and was not entirely received well.

In 2015, he spent three months behind bars for his involvement in a Wisconsin bar brawl that involved a man getting stabbed. Diamond was charged of disorderly conduct and carrying a concealed weapon.

Dustin Diamond was sentenced to four months in jail, but got out early on the condition that he would work as a janitor. He talked about his experience in prison and other controversies surrounding his life in a conversation with his SBTB co-star Mario Lopez on Extra.

Dan Block, a close friend of Diamond, told The Sun that the actor was kept in the dark about the SBTB revival.

“I actually let him know, ‘Hey, they’re doing the reboot,'” Dan said. “He replied and said ‘How could they leave me out?’ I know he wants to be a part of it.”

“At the end of the day he’s a good guy and deserves a second chance,” Dan said in the end.
