Selena Gomez had a complicated relationship with her body
Selena Gomez, 28, has recently talked about struggles regarding her weight and body image. Selena got fame at a young age and since then she had to keep her fashion game strong as she had multiple places, award ceremonies, red carpets, and parties to go to. In a video for VOGUE, the ‘Rare’ singer opened up about her weight fluctuation when she was asked about her top 15 looks from the past. Selena Gomez specifically talked about her look when she walked the red carpet at the Met Gala in 2015, she was wearing a beautiful white Vera Wang gown in which she looked extremely stunning. However, the young singer does not feel the same.
“I fluctuate a lot with my weight. And I remember this night specifically, I didn’t feel good about my body,” Selena said. “So what was really amazing was that I actually got a chance to work on the dress that fit my body. I think that we came together and built something really beautiful and something that fit me really well,” she continued. “That was one of the moments where I was like, ‘I don’t have to be that 19-year-old body shape anymore, because I’m not.’ ”
Selena Gomez also struggled with her look during 2019’s premiere of “The Dead Don’t Die” in New York City, “This was also a moment in my life where I had fluctuated in weight,” she said. “I’m very honest with the people on my team, so I didn’t want to wear anything tight. And then I tried this dress on and I felt so beautiful.” Gomez has a chronic autoimmune disease called lupus for which she needs chemotherapy treatments and medication. The ‘Wolves’ singer revealed that she started struggling with body image issues due to her health.
Selena’s mental health issue
Selena also said that the continuous mocking about her weight issues affected her mental health. The28-year-old ‘Monte Carlo’ fame has suffered from mental health issues for a long time due to various reasons. However, a source claims that at this point Selena Gomez is the “healthiest version of herself.” When this source, was asked about Selena’s dating plans, they said, “Selena is very traditional, she would love to find ‘her person’ and get married and have a family one day,”. However, the source added, “She is not looking for something serious now and is in no rush to settle down as her priority continues to be her health, career, and philanthropy work.”
Being a victim of mental health, Selena knows what it is like and so recently she started a campaign titled Mental Health 101, for Rare Impact by her makeup line, Rare Beauty. The campaign helps provides resources to needy people that might support and educate them on mental health. Along with this, the ‘Lose You To Love Me’ singer has also joined hands with Taraji P. Henson, Charlize Theron, and J Balvin on a new project to launch a digital yearbook.
The XQ Yearbook
The XQ Yearbook will be a digital collection of student-submitted portraits which will help to engage and unite high schoolers across the country in the name of mental health. Every time a new submission is uploaded on the digital yearbook, the XQ institute will donate $2 to a national coalition of mental health organizations serving youth. This will be a very helpful step as many people including students have started struggling with mental health issues due to COVID-19.
