In case you missed it, the multifaceted Selena Gomez launched her own cosmetics company Rare Beauty earlier this month.
Her makeup products opened to some rave reviews, with beauty vloggers like Manny Mua, Nikkie Tutorials and Huda Kattan appreciating them.
But instead of all the positive views, what piqued the public was Youtuber Patrick Starrr‘s harsh review of Selena Gomez’s Rare Beauty products. Here’s the full story.
Patrick Starrr reviews products of Selena Gomez’s makeup line
In a video posted on 6th September, the vlogger opened and tested the items he received in the Rare Beauty PR package.
Patrick Starrr pointed out some faults with the eyeliner and said he wished the foundation was thicker. Time and again, he compared Rare Beauty products to those from his own Sephora collection, One/Size, and that put off fans. At one point, he even said that he prefers his eyeliner over Rare’s.
He admitted he was being “biased” towards his brand but that didn’t cut him any slack either. The review received some serious flak, with people asking why he even did one in the first place.
“Why make a review of Rare beauty [sic] when all you’re going to do is compare and talk about your products. Majority of your comments just seemed shady,” one user wrote.
Selena Gomez’s Rare Beauty responds to Starrr’s review
With the review that Starrr gave, any other person would’ve easily engaged in a war of words but not Selena Gomez.
Rare Beauty recently released a statement thanking everyone for the response to the products. “We’re so thrilled by all the great feedback on @rarebeauty so far! It’s so uplifting to see how much love and support we’re receiving from the community for our brand mission and our products,” the Rare Beauty team tweeted.
“But please remember that everyone has different preferences with makeup, and not everything is going to work for everyone. That’s okay!” they added.
“@patrickstarrr is such a positive voice in this community and an incredible creator and entrepreneur so let’s all show him nothing but love!”
Patrick Starrr responded to this in the sweetest way possible. “Alexa play “Kill Em with Kindness.” Love u @selenagomez congrats on the launch,” he tweeted.
