Selena Gomez’s Kidney Transplant has been a topic of contention in the new Saved By The Bell Reboot and Selenators are not happy with it.
Saved By The Bell Reboot which comes nearly 31 years after the original 1981 sitcom with the same name, and casts some of its original actors in the new series, aired its first episode on Peacock on 25th November. But the viewers are not happy with the reboot as it has mocked a touchy subject of one of the biggest celebrities of this generation, Selena Gomez.
Saved By The Bell Reboot’s first episode, has made fun of Selena Gomez’s Kidney Transplant surgery which she had to get done in 2017. The episode features two students of Bayside High School gossiping about who is the person who donated one of their kidneys to Selena Gomez.
“I know for a fact that Selena Gomez’s kidney donor was Justin Bieber’s mom,” says one of the characters. “God I wish that I had my phone so I could prove it.”
“Prove what? That you’re an idiot,” replies the other student. “It was Demi Lovato’s kidney. They’re best friends, like you and I were.”
In another scene, the main point of the contention is revealed, where two students are talking to each other, the words “Does Selena Gomez even have a kidney?” are written on the wall behind them.
Save By The Bell Reboot’s network, Peacock, reached out to People to apologize and that they made a donation to the Selena Gomez’s charity. “We apologize. It was never our intention to make light of Selena’s health. We have been in touch with her team and will be making a donation to her charity, The Selena Gomez Fund for Lupus Research at USC.”
Selena Gomez’s Kidney Transplant became necessary after a complication from her fight with the auto-immune disease, Lupus, spread to her kidneys. Her best friend, Francia Raísa reached out and decided to give one of her kidneys to help Selena as she was compatible to do the same.
“I am beyond grateful that God would trust me with something that not only saved a life, but changed mine in the process. This was part of our story, and we will share it soon, but what is important now is that this is not the only story.” said Francia Raísa about her life-changing experience.
