Shailene Woodley And Aaron Rodgers Are Engaged, Says It’s Been “For A While”

“I don’t know him as a football guy.”

It’s official!

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and Big Little Lies actress Shailene Woodley are engaged.

Shailene Woodley confirmed her engagement rumours to Green Bay Packers when the 29-year-old actress appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Monday night.

She joked that she never thought she’d grow up to marry someone who “throws balls for a living.”

“Yes, we are engaged,” Shailene Woodley told Fallon, 46. “But for us, it’s not new news, you know, so it’s kind of funny. Everyone right now is freaking out over it and we’re like, ‘Yeah, we’ve been engaged for a while.’ “

Reports of the engagement surfaced after Aaron Rodgers said he has a “fiancee” during an NFL Honors acceptance speech a couple weeks ago. Though Rodgers did not reveal the identity of his new fiancée then, romance rumours have surrounded him and Woodley in recent months.

Earlier this week, Us Weekly confirmed that Rodgers has been dating Woodley, following his split from the former professional racing driver, Danica Patrick.

In the interview, Shailene Woodley called Aaron Rodgers “a wonderful, incredible human being” and said that she “never thought I’d be engaged with somebody who threw balls for a living”: “I never thought as a little girl, ‘Yeah, when I grow up, I’m gonna marry someone who throws balls! Yeah!’ But he’s really just so good at it.”

“When I first met him, I think my dog like pulled me aside and was like, ‘If you don’t date this dude, I will disown you as my mother, because the three feet that I run with you when you throw a ball is nothing compared to the marathon I’m able to run with him,'” she continued.

With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic Shailene Woodley still has yet to watch her fiancé play in a game.

Talking about her interest in sports, Woodley also shared that it was not her thing. “I didn’t really grow up with sports, especially American sports. It was never really on my radar. When we met, also, I knew he was a football guy, but I didn’t know like what kind of a football guy he was. And I’m still constantly learning.”

“I don’t know him as a football guy,” Shailene Woodley continued. “I know him as like the nerd who wants to host Jeopardy! That’s the dude I know. He just happens to be very good at sports.”

A source told PEOPLE, “They are very happy together. It’s not surprising he proposed so fast. When you know, you know, right?”

Congratulations to the happy couple!
