SNL controversy! It seems that the controversial decision that SNL took to allow Tesla founder Elon Musk to host the show on May 8th has backfired.
Elon Musk will be hosting Saturday Night Live on 8th of May, the news has drawn a lot of backlash from a lot of people on the internet through tweets. However, even the regular cast of NBC’s comedy show have expressed their discontent with the billionaire hosting the iconic show.
Page Six has some good news though, the website reported that SNL cast members won’t have to act alongside Elon when he eventually hosts the show on 8th May. A source told Page Six-
“Speaking historically, if a cast member has been that unhappy, they don’t have to do it. ‘SNL’ boss Lorne Michaels won’t ever make them do anything they don’t want to do.”
Elon Musk will be the first non-actor or non-athlete to host SNL since Donald Trump was part of the satirical sketches in 2015. He announced his appearance on Twitter with a tweet on April 25 that has garnered almost 215,000 likes since.
Some of the cast members were visibly unsatisfied with the news, cast member Bowen Yang replied to Elon’s tweet with “What the **** does this even mean?”; show writer Andrew Dismukes posted on Instagram: “Only CEO I want to do a sketch with is Cher-E Oteri”.
Aidy Bryant, a repertory player on SNL since 2012 also showed his supposed discontent towards Elon’s appearance on the show by sharing a tweet by Bernie Sanders in which Bernie talked about the economic inequality in the USA just hours after the announcement. The indirect tweet does not refer to Elon in a direct way, but complains about the 50 wealthiest people owning more than 165 million Americans; Elon Musk is second to Jeff Bezos on the list of America’s wealthiest individuals.
However, none of the cast members have pulled out of the May 8th SNL skit, the PageSix source added and the show is supposedly going to continue with Elon Musk as the host. “Whether you like him or not, Elon is a very interesting character. He’s very much a showman.”- added the source.
