The famous Star War actor and dialect coach, Andrew Jack, breathed his last on Tuesday (March 31) in Surrey, England. The 76-year-old actor who worked in more than 80 movies died from complications related to COVID-19. Andrew’s agent Jill McCullough said that Andrew was unable to seek or talk to his wife, Gabreille Rogers, who he was madly in love with. This was because she is quarantined in Australia after having just returned from New Zealand. The death of the actor came as a shock to his many fans and colleagues.
Andrew Jack’s Starlit Career
Jack was best known for his role as Major (later promoted to General) Caluan Ematt in both Star Wars sequels – The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. Andrew also voiced the character of Moloch in Solo: A Star War Story. A master of accents and dialects, he was the supervising dialect coach on various international chartbuster movie series including Guardians of the Galaxy, The Lord of the Rings, Captain America and The Avengers. He also worked on James Bond movies like GoldenEye and Die Another Day. Before succumbing to the pandemic virus, Andrew was last working on The Batman, the new sequel starring Robert Pattinson, which was set to release in 2021 but has been shelved due to the global spread of coronavirus.
A Great Actor and Full of Life
Jack was known for his contribution to cinema and also for his full of life attitude and sportsmanship. The late actor’s agent referred to him as one of the “brightest and clearest voices” in the industry. Even during his last days, he was coaching on the novel Batman movie series. She also mentioned how he was “full of life”, “funny, charming and a joy to be around”.
A Heartfelt Tribute
Soon after the news of the beloved Star War actor’s demise was confirmed by his wife on Twitter, love and heartfelt tributes began to pour in from across the world. The tweet read: “We lost a man today. Andrew Jack was diagnosed with Coronavirus 2 days ago. He was in no pain, and he slipped away peacefully knowing that his family were all ‘with’ him”.
Christopher Miller, Executive Producer of Solo: A Star Wars Story mentioned in his tweet: “Andrew Jack was the dialect coach on SOLO, and a kind and thoughtful man. We asked him to teach Alden to speak Shyriiwook, and I’ll always remember listening to them gargle-roar at each other back and forth.”
Actor Joonas Suotamo, also tweeted “Today we learned that a member of our ‘Star Wars’ family, Andrew Jack, passed away due to complications from COVID-19. In addition to playing Major Ematt in ‘The Force Awakens’, his work as a dialect coach on ‘TFA’, ‘Solo’, & other ‘SW’ films revealed a man who was passionate & caring for both his work and those around him. My thoughts are with his family and friends (sic),”
Various other actors including Lord of the Rings stars Elijah Wood and Sean Astin said very kind words for the late actor.
