Film producer Steve Bing, 55, committed suicide on June 22 as he jumped from his luxury apartment in Los Angeles.
A notable philanthropist, Bing put an end to his life after a long battle with depression.
While on the surface it seemed like the business mogul had it all, he led a tormented life in reality.
Drugs, debts and deteriorating mental health led him to suicide, as per a Pagesix report.
At 18, he bequeathed a $600 million fortune from his grandfather – who was a real estate agent – but ran through it due to “ill-advised investments”. The inheritance bankrolled not only his private jet and the various trips, but also his political and charitable donations.
But before Bing knew it, it was all gone. A source said that Steve had to sell his prized assets to pay off his debts.
“Steve recently sold his jet, his home, and was very depressed,” it said.
A friend, who chose not to be named, enunciated, “Steve was the most charming, caring and generous guy you could ever meet. Yes, he liked beautiful women, but it never worked out.”
Talking about Steve Bing’s mental health, the source said, “He has gone through a dark time for years. He talked about battling mental illness, bipolar disorder. His close friends are devastated about Bing’s death but, sadly, not surprised.”
“Steve did have a drug problem, but it was the mental issues that tormented him. He would often disappear for long periods of time. He didn’t have a strong relationship with his kids, and he was sad about that.” Bing was the father of two, son Damian Hurley who he had with Elizabeth Hurley, and daughter Kira Bonder with former tennis player Lisa Bonder.
“And, as surprising as this sounds, he had financial problems in the end. He made a lot of ill-advised investments. His latest film with Warren Beatty went upside down, and many people took him for a lot of money. People imagine it is impossible to run through $600 million, but he did. He was too generous,” the source added.
Steve Bing’s suicide has rattled Hollywood and tributes have been pouring in from his colleagues as well as his politician friends. Wherever he is, we hope Bing finds that peace which he never could in this world.
